I arrived at about 7.45pm and just caught the reception staff before they left for the night. She was very friendly and helpful. The room was a reasonable size and very clean, the bathrooms were also very clean. The kitchen was well stocked and clean and tidy. I caught the 3am bus to the airport which stopped right outside the guesthouse. Staff were very helpful and obliging, especially when I mixed up a plane reservation - they contacted sas for me & found a room @ the busy Guesthouse for another night - great service with a smile! The facilities are older and are well-maintained and clean. I would prefer staying at the Guesthouse as it is part of the history of the area.

For Longyearbyen, it was the best budget accommodation, very clean, the shared bathrooms were spotless, well equipped kitchen, the buffet breakfast was superb and the best of all, the reindeer outside of our window, two days in a row, in a superb mountain setting... The price was Ok compare to other hotel, we enjoyed Spitsbergen and did not need SPA an other stuff. We ate a lot of good food there. In fact everything was fantastic and maybe we are going back in the summer. Fantastic value for money- very cheap in relation to other local accommodation. Great staff and good breakfast included. Town centre is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk. Clean and comfortable, very homely. Good location (pleasant walk to and from city center), very clean (even shared bathrooms), friendly staff, rich breakfast. Special budget option in a special place. My accommodation was in a separate block on the first floor and there was no lift so it was difficult to get my large suitcase to the room. It's quite along walk from the main part of town and it's uphill so needed a taxi to move all my luggage. Four am flights (nothing to do with the Guesthouse)!. The fact that you had to pay for the internet if you wanted to use it in the comfort of your room, c'mon we are into the wireless 21st century and it's not the luxury, it's all about the convenience and necessity. Rooms are a little basic, as reflected by the price- that was no problem for us but don't expect the Ritz. Also the room was extremely warm and the curtains were pretty much useless against the midnight sun. So, I had a little walk into town. Helps with the fitness and great views. Get soem fresh air. Around 2km walk into town and all the shops. No regular buses service the area, though many tourist activities include pickup from hotels. Everything here is very expensive!. Removing shoes... But in Norway...you have to do what they do! Walk back from town...uphill. Internet cost 75 crowns ($12) per day. The location is a bit too far. carting heavy bags up stairs. A bit remote from rest of "city",. Far from the rest of the town, we had to walk for half an hour to eat. Expensive for the guesthouse of this type. Suggest the rooms have room darkening blinds. With having 24 hours of daylight in summer would be beneficial . We knew, but still a downer: the guesthouse is a good 30min walk to the 'centre' of Longyearbyen; there's no public transport, except for the 3-times per day airport bus. However the walk is no punishment with the beautiful Svalbard surroundings. No en-suite but we were aware of that when booking. The overall experience made the inconvenience worthwhile. Rooms are in former bunkhouses for coal miners. A good 30 min walk into town centre in Polar Bear country. No food, shopping near guesthouse. Can take cab for about 80 NOK each way. Internet available for fee. no dark curtains which are necessary in 24/7 sunlight. we had to make blindfolds with our clothes to sleep. so long distance from city, no local bus service, poor breakfast menu. More a hostel than a guesthouse!.
