Very easy to use hotel. Self serve check in when you get there (a bank of about five computers), so you aren't waiting for a person to take care of you. Someone is nearby for the technically challenged. The rooms are what I would call "pods". Small rooms with everything compact and easy to reach. The photos online tell the story. Very comfortable in every aspect. Temperature, tv, lighting, etc all controlled by the "mood pad" (remote). I was able to easily drop the temp a couple of degre.
all reviews » This is one of top three hotels I have ever stayed in (and there were some!), but I cannot remember the other two :). Giving this hotel a 10 would mean that the other few I rated as 10 should now be re-rated to 8. :) Everything was great. The technical stuff in the room, funny saying everywhere, some might find "self-check-in" a bother, but I liked a new experience and there was always extremely polite and friendly staff around to help. All in all - 7min walk from Amsterdam Zuid train station. . There's tons to love about this place! It has character and is very unique. Looks exactly like the pictures! Everyone is very friendly and helpful, it's a great atmosphere. You sign yourself in and make your own key card and once in your room you have a remote to control the lights, shades and the colored lights above the toilet and shower. It's really impressive but very easy, everything has a description of how it works and it's all really fun to play with. There's a 24 hr bar with a decent s. The comfort of the bed (king size) the size and facilities of the room., Perfect for business travellers (free wifi in the room, and you can use both your tablet and laptop at the same time); diferents outlets for differents electronic devices in the romm, no need for an adaptor;movies on demand ; tiny and useful safe box; friendly staff. Great location for transport to the airport and Amsterdam centre (tram 5 for the museums is just around the corner) . The hotel keeps record of your preferenc. I've stayed at numerous hotels both in Europe and the U.S. that could be described as both "trendy" and "boutique". but my visit to the CitizenM was a refreshing surprise. Unlike most trendy hostelries, this one was remarkably attitude-free - the staff are friendly and helpful, which is rare in hotels of any category. And the ultra-modern design elements have been well thought out and well-crafted. Which means that they all worked. Plus the generous-sized bed, and the cloud-like duvet assured . hotel staff was OUTSTANDING very helpful service with a smile!! Everything in the rooms worked as it should have. It was freezing in Amsterdam during our trip and the room was very warm when we returned at night the TV remote controls everything in the room and if you dont put the remote back in the charger is will stop working but they told us that when we checked in. what other Hotel has free wifi, movies, and best of all free INTERNATIONAL CALLS!!!! love this place will always make an effort. Everything from entering the hotel, to leaving the hotel was excellent. The service, staff, very very helpful, polite, professional. Facility's, excellent, you could not ask for more. The room was fantastic, modern, futuristic, different ambient settings, lighting all worked off the TV remote, films free, telephone in the room, calls abroad where skype rates, shower was a circular cubicle in the room itself ultra modern, with gadgets. I was impressed by the automated check-in process, handled by the terminals at the entrance, and how this paved the way for a very modern and next-generation hotel experience. My husband and I started our honeymoon through Europe from Amsterdam and we stayed for 2 days. We loved the hotel for its location, trendy style and fun contemporary atmosphere. The rooms are a bit small and privacy is a bit sketchy since the toilet and shower are separated by glass, but I think the architecture and technology captures the Amsterdam's forward thinking spirit. -The open space on the 1st floor was great and welcoming. -All of the staff were wonderful; Robert was great, friendly, gave great recommendations and is great at his job! -The fresh mint tea was great and enjoyable. -Very nice shopping areas in the vicinity of the hotel. -Very close to the airport and a short ride to the city centre. -Love the bar/food area as well. It was futuristic and a really good experience. The lobby is fantastic. The employes are helpfull. The localization is good, a little distant from downtown but the traim is in front of the hotel, just 5 minutes from the turistics places. The room is was reasonable size for short stays, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was clean and fresh on arrival. We were not told about the possible bag storage so ended up paying an extra 20 euros to check in at 12 rather than 2 so we could go sight seeing! However, staff were extremely friendly during this process. It was my first time using self check-in system and made me feel interesting. It is a very different experience because the bath room is totally glass in the middle of room and could be seen. Though the hotel is not situated in the centre of the city, it is extremely well connected with both metro and tram, making it easy to commute to the city. Fairly comfortable bed. The room is very well-designed so while it has a small area it is easy to use. The bar/food area is open all day and even if you pre-pay breakfast and only come down at 3pm you can still have your breakfast which is great. The shower is nice. Probably the best thing for me was the cocktail bar! I dont think this is emphasized enough on the website. It is very good. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We were very pleasantly greeted by Robert when we arrived, and he was very genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our stay. He was also very helpful guiding us to where we wanted to shop and eat, and all around a very nice young man. Didn't love the shower - water only starts a few moments after the doors are closed securely and I confess it took some work for us to get it figured out. Only one small spot to hang clothes - fits about five items. No complaints, we will absolutely be back to this hotel but some things to take note of are that it's about a $20 cab ride from the city center, the tourist part of town. There is a metro into the city but we didn't take it so I don't know much about it however it's probably a great option. The duvet was a little on the thins side (you must double if you like to have a warn night of sleep.) The hotel should consider some people do not like heating when sleeping and prefer an extra blanket. The hand shower need a to be fixed -please check before giving you the room- The guy at the reception was friendly and kind but he made me paid in advance. (Is this a new policy?) Overpticed items at the self-service pantry. (4 euros a small cup of ice cream). nothing. Nothing. Sole thing: The rooms were a bit too stylish to the extent of compromising on ease-of-use of certain facilities, e.g. the fully transparent shower cabin or the semi-transparent toilet cabin. They also take away way too much space. I think there was a issue regarding the toilets and privacy in the rooms. -The rooms are a bit cold; I recommend they warm up the rooms 5-8 degrees more particularly during the winter. No drawers in the bedroom and not much hanging space (I stayed here for 5 nights), although the pull out section from under the bed where the spare duvet is kept, worked well. Had to leave in the end. :) And now seriously. The touch display which was used to control everything in the room kept freezing sometimes. Room was very small. Only stayed a few days, but might get a bit annoying if you stayed longer or wanted to spend more time in your room than just to sleep. Breakfast wasn't a great deal for the price. Absulutely nothing everything about this hotel is great. Room controller remote is a really neat concept, but it's a tad bit buggy. It would have been convenient to have a fridge and complimentary tea and coffee in the room. It was quite chilly in the room and the temperature control was not very responsive. Breakfast 24 hours was a great idea but the selection of food which was microwaveable only was limited in choice. Drinks and snacks were quite expensive. Little bit of cold rooms. Rooms could be bigger. Not the best internet connections specially in your room. No possibility to either make a tea at your room or store some fruits while there is no refrigerator in the room. Definitely not recommended for families with children. Wi-fi works terribly for such a high-tech hotel. The room temperature (and hot water), which can be inconvenient for A'dam. The windows noise insulation is very poor, which is terrible in case of a rain storm blowing in your window. The moodpad, as fun as it is, often gets jammed, which leaves you wishing you had a regular remote control. Translucent walls in the bathroom and shower can be very inconvenient. Snacks and drinks sold at the hotel are expensive. There is not enough hanging space for four shirts a jacket & a coat. Also, the hangers are hung too low for a long coat or dress. Some parents might be surprised by the picture near the elevator if they looked closely at it. The food selection at the hotel was very limited - I tried the dinner but it was not nice (typical Dutch fare, very mediocre) Very small desk in room, not much space to work on- plus hotel had glued remote control to desk (as opposed to putting on wall) creating even less desk space!. The shower was difficult to operate. Maybe a result of the design. The temperature control in the room was difficult to operate. The parking in front of the hotel very expensive, like everything in Amsterdam. But there's another parking near more cheaper. The remote control of the room doesn't work. The room was extremely cold and although this wouldn't have been a problem in summer months, we are having a particularly cold spring this year. We had to have our room reset 3 times for everything to function correctly which wasted a considerable amount of time! We were not offered any other alternative and simply had to sit and wait for the room to heat up. In the end we gave up and went out. Would have been nice to have somewhere to hang your clothes!. It's ideal for a couple a bit less if you share the room with a friend (well it all depends on how comfy you are with them...as there is no wall between the room and the shower/toilet. If you are not very intimate with the person you are sharing the room with, you might find the toilet and shower a bit "revealing". Hated that the tv is programmed in to the lights, so it's hard to opt for tv off, or not have it come on with some annoying cartoon thing or music. Bit cold but there was an extra duvet - pillow a bit small given the huge and otherwise comfortable bed. The toilet is a little "island" within the room, isolated only by frosted glass. It offers very limited privacy should the room be shared and by my standards, the room cannot be shared for this reason. The room is a simple rectangle and the shower is also an "island". Even though the room is fun, it doesn't feel really sheltered and in spite of a curtain, you feel a bit like you are sleeping in a bathroom. If you haven't bared all to your partner and are having a romantic weekend away this one may not be for you; the shower and toilet are IN your room!. Wifi is free but the connection is not good. No kettle. The rooms are little stuffy with the toilet right in the bedroom. The internet was very slow one morning, almost unusably slow from 08:00 to 09:00, then it became much faster - once most people had left, I assume!. There is nothing I can find fault with... Poor breakfast. The hotel is not recommended for a fresh couples – the toilet in the middle of the room with glass walls could be interesting experience… Not too much room for the guest stuff. The idea to have a one remote control for all facilities in the room looks excellent, but implementation isn’t there yet – a lot of freezesand not everything works... the rooms are very small for two people and it is quite awakward using the toilet in a room that size with someone else. Also it is slightly too far from the city centre. The room was cold, the staff inmediately tried to fix it but there must have been a problem. The drinks and food are expensive... one coffee and one tea 6,25 € !!!! The rooms are so modern they are small if you have to stay for more than the weekend there's no room to hang you're clothes. Breakfast was the same everyday. Cant find anything else to complain about!!!. Rooms could have been a bit bigger. Kind of small for two. Not much space in the room if you have a fair amount of luggage. Well...it´s just a bit distant from the center - so you cannot walk there...but hey, catch a 15 min tram and in no itme you are there...so, IT´FINE!!!. Probably not a lot of room to relax in your room, but the mood lighting is amazing and the shower!! For a short break it is fine. Everything was exceptional.
