The Hotel was superb, both in location and decor. We were very pleased with the room and the friendly staff. It was also very helpful that they looked after our bags, whilst we did sight seeing, eventhough we had already checked out. We have already recommended this hotel to 4 of our friends and family !!!. The extra charge for breakfast, I think for the facilities offered 15 euros could be avoided being counted as extra charge!. Nothing. not pleasant breakfast area. Windows were not sound-proofed, a must in this very busy area (especially if the room is facing the train station). I stayed in the hotel before and everytime the bathtub is not very clean. bath plug did not work, the shelf on the shower fitting collapsed, and the ventilator operated continually. Too less people in the bar in the evening. I also asked for a taxi next morning, but for one of other reason it was nor ordered. But the porter was very helpfull to catch a cab for me. The room rate are exagerated (€ 178) for a (small) single room. Bathroom a bit old (cracked wash bassin).The Wireless Internet was of very poor quality and there was no fixed line. The staff were rude, unfriendly and not helpful....They were constanly trying to take advantage of the fact that we couldn't speak French and over charging us on the bill by adding breakfeast for 3 people when we didn't have breakfeast! Thank goodness we realised as one of our party could speak french!. too expensive for what you get but maybe that's just paris. no mini bar or fridge. no kettle or coffee maker. everything else very nice. Internet did not support VPN connection. Expensive - we had breakfast in a local cafe. Cleaning ladies start early in the morning. A bit expensive. Absolutely substandard mattress and bed. Didn't close an eye. The room was small and the bed very narrow for a double bed. Normally we are able to share the bed with our 6-year old daughter but this time one of us had to sleep on the floor. Also there was no minibar despite the room being considerably more expensive than similar hotels which provide this facility.Booking a taxi with staff took 3 different people and 10 minutes. room extrremely small and i am not usually fussed; hotel is a labyrinth so finding your way around is confusing; lobby bar not open; no concierge to make bookings, answer questions etc; they seem more focussed on large groups. the air conditioning was faulty and we had to change rooms; receptionists were less than helpful;. no frigo bar in the room, magnetic key not working and staff unable to fix it, too expensive. The service of the front desk staff was poor, they were not helpful andwere reluctant to do my check-in stating that I was late for check-in (Iarrived at 3 am). Also, the furnishing was old and there were cracks onthe toilet bowl and bathtub. In addition, the lifts broke down on ourdeparture day but no prior notice was given. No consistancy of experience, last time the room and service was great, this time the room was dirty, paint peeling off the bathroom door, damaged toilet, tiny room, same price as previous,.

Information about the area

Canal Saint-Martin (1 km): a 4.5km long canal in Paris, France. Today it is a popular destination for Parisians and tourists who watch the barges navigate the series of locks and road bridges. The canal is featured in the 1938 movie Hôtel du Nord, directed by Marcel Carné.
