Location, location, location! I stayed here twice. The hotel is close to the train station - People's Square, exit 14. It's in walking distance to East Nanjing Rd without all the noise. You can also walk to the Bund really easily. The staff are super friendly and speak English well. Breakfast was ok-good as it was included, no complaints there. I was given a great room during my first stay (I had some requests which they were able to fulfil.) It was disappointing I didn't get the same kind of r.
all reviews » The ambience of the hotel was really good all through out the hotel, the interior design from the lobby to the reception to the restaurants and especially the rooms is outstanding. The staff were very helpful and eager to serve in whatever way they can. From helping to arrange sightseeing tours or mapping out places to go, or picking up a taxi. The staff spoke very good english, especially the concierge. We had a two day stopover in Shanghai and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The location of the hotel is excellent and is only a few minutes walk to the main shopping area, parks and rail stations. The staff were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble for them and everything was done with a smile. Loved our experience and would definitely highly recommend to other travellers. The best thing is that it is a comfortable hotel situated only 30 meters away from the central subway station, which is a great advantage for a hotel in Shanghai! We were not informed of the restaurants so only stumbled across the nice Japanese by accident (even though we asked). Personnel does not speak very good English, or even at all. The food for room service wasn't that great. It was expensive for what I normally pay, but the location was worth it. since isnt a Langham hotel anymore (since March 2013) this hotel is starting to lose its charm, got smaller room ever which was really uncomfy without the chance to change it 'cause they insist I dont have the benefits I had before with 1863 program, even though i paid for a double I got a single room. too bad. It wasn't the hotels' fault my only dislike was the weather - it rained a fair bit of the time I was there. My room do not have nice view and there is not sunlight enter the room. Receptionist was a bit disappointing, consider this is a 5 star hotel. There are lots of better restaurants than Ciao italian restaurant. hard to booking, it's really hot. Nothing. Breakfast not up to standard expected of this type of hotel Staffing levels not sufficient Poor check in service. A/C does not work well. This is not in any way a 5 star. I stayed there due to excellent ratings. I cannot see how these ratings are true. Located in a smelly back street, room had a seriously bad smell, room temperature was at 25 deg. and could not be adjusted, water pressure non-existent, poor facilities througout with no staffing. I will never stay here again nor recommend to anyone else.
