We were two young female backpackers and it was an experience we will never forget....We liked the staff (pretty sure seeing them all dressed like girls was probably why haha)...when we first arrived they offered us free goon....mmmm...played some games ;p had a night out on the town :) they showed us where to get pizza...great atmosphere... And our own bathroom :d woot woot!!!! Umm and yea it's just very friendly!.
all reviews » Customer service was superb. Soraya at reception was especially helpful and went out of her way to keep family in one room after I changed booking at the last minute. Awesome location, next to central railway and monorail. nomads was great fun! was travelling alone in sydney - nomads was a great place to meet new people and was located perfectly to see sydney. free drinks, free pasta. All the staff people is amazing and friendly. Every day you have something to day with a events in a Sydney's pub. Thank you so much I miss you everybody. The location is great, close to train station, places to eat and shopping all very near. Good, helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable and clean room. Just needed a quiet place to sleep overnight close to work as I live some distance from the City & didn't won't to travel home. Location is excellent. The staff at the front desk were generally helpful and kind. It was what it said, a 32 bed dorm, I expected it to be noisy, it was but not as bad as I thought. The bed was reasonably comfortable. The linen was clean. Met some Great people, good nights out - lots of free entry's to bars and drink tickets. Ok kitchen facilities and great overall cleanliness. The staff are young people who actually live in the hostel and work there as a working visa and are always up for partying. It was a very easy going hostel, every night there was usually a chance to meet people except maybe Saturday night. just stayed for one night before flying back to hong kong, so not expecting much. it was fair. It was a good value for money, considering I paid for a 32 beds room while getting a bed in a 6 beds room. it is very backpackers friendly they organize a lot of events to help you get accommodated with the city and meet people. The location! Within CBD, with easy access to basically all the interesting spots downtown. During the morning the girls (the staffs) were really nice with us. The hotel was in a good location to get to Central Station. Very close to Capitol Theater Chinatown and world Square. Some of the beds were uncomfy but if you just find someone to cuddle with they are a lot better ;p. Nothing. More suited to younger generation as backpackers on street a bit noisy but to be expected. Room is very basic but for the price cannot be beaten for value. Nothing. The lift is too slow and there is only one lift. So we have to wait for a long time for the lift each time. The air con inside the room is too old and makes a loud noise at night which is really disturbing. Heater was down which is the worst thing that can happen during a winter trip. I was OK with all. Nothing. no free wifi. Elevator took forever no towels for shower. very slow lift. no water presure in shower. Musty. The room had a bunk bed and a plastic-feeling blanket. The cleaning staff barged in to my room, even knowing that I was still in there three times: once to do the vacuuming, once to make the bed and once to clean the bathroom. Only one elevator makes for a very long wait, as the building is quite tall. There is a charge for left luggage after check-out and the fire stairs reek of urine. The showers were a bit on the cold side and did smell of wee. The lift is slow and you have to use it for security so they can see who is coming in. The staff pick and choose who needs to follow the rules and who doesn't. It would be good to have a locker by your bed for your bags. Long term residents can be a bit isolated. Insufficient washing machines and dryers for the building. Make sure you double check about meeting times etc.. In the evenings as the entertainment manager can be vague. The staff is already a big community, therefore if you are not there with a working visa it may be difficult to feel part of the group. For cleaning the rooms there should not be 4 people coming in the room at 4 different times, and the "do not disturb sign" looks like an unusual thing that you have to ask at the reception. It is a very clicky hostel. lift takes forever and the room smells not really nice. Room I stayed in was clearly neglected maintenance wise. Room smelt musty due to leak in bathroom, and the air con clunked all night. Room was expensive for the state it was in. Room was not very clean and looked like it hadn't seen any renovation for the past decade(s). People smoking in front of the lobby entrance. not the cleanest rooms, bedding was stained and disgusting. 3 of us gut some sort of bug bites. the toilet a little gross. super slow lift One of the bed I chose didn't have a ladder to climb up. The air-con was very loud. - very basic and noisy room, toilet water was running all night long - elevators very slow, that you have to wait for very long time. The bed - mattress was ready for the tip. The quality of the room. Rooms Need to be cleaned and Showers need a scrub. Shared toilets & showers. General cleanliness and room/ equipment upkeep needed a little attention. Cleanliness had quite a bit wanting - veteran traveller/backpacker but managed to get an eye infection. Insanely slow lift needs serious attention (as only method of entry to rooms). Also value quite bad but welcome to Sydney. No hot water, shower dribbled and with no hot water didn't even bother, lift got stuck twice, carrying luggage down 9 flights of stairs. Wouldnt stay again if YOU paid me. clean. Bad smell dirty lobby rude staff and lift. Lift was breakdown and we have to carry 20kg luggage by using stairs to level 10. the staff kept pinning up notes that i hadn't payed for my bed although that was the first thing i did when i got there it was pretty cold in the bathroom not so clean, but acceptable i suppose they cuold still work on it. Bunk-style beds in a room for two. Lack of clothes hangers and shelf space in the bathroom, and... the Lift! just terrible how slow it moves!. The time, during the evening, when I arrived the staff ( a man) was really rude, I was with my mother and she was really tired and the staff didn't make easy to us. I was paying, she was needing to sleep and he was just thinking about the money, I was paying not her, she didn't need to feel bad. The rooms smelled and there were smokers outside loitering around the entrance. Dirty Dingy smelly. Couches in reception and kitchen look like they came from the young ones house and probably have new bacteria colonies awaiting discovery. The lift is extremely slow.Do not stay here.

Please note that the elevator will not be accessible from the ground floor from 23 February, 2017 until further notice. It will be accessible from levels 1-13. The property can help guests with their luggage. Please note that there is a 2.5% charge when you pay with a credit card. Please note that this hostel books beds, not rooms. Travelling information

From Sydney Central Station / Interstate Train & Bus Station: Westend Backpackers Youth Hostel is only a 5 minute walk from the station. Take the Eddy Avenue & Pitt Street exit and follow Pitt Street up towards the city centre. Westend is located on the right hand side of the street (412 Pitt Street). From Sydney Domestic & International Terminal: If you stay with us for a minimum of 3 nights we offer a FREE one way airport pickup to Westend with Sydney City Shuttle Buses ONLY. (This offer does not apply for groups over 10). The return fare is AUD 12 on the shuttle bus. Guests MUST call Westend Backpackers Youth Hostel upon arrival at Sydney International or Domestic Airport to arrange a FREE transfer (minimum 3 night stay). Westend Backpackers FREE CALL number is 1800 013 186. The last Sydney City Shuttle Bus departs the Domestic Terminal at 7:30pm and the International Terminal at 10pm, transfers after this time can occur by train/taxi at guests own expense. If a guest has purchased a Westend backpackers Work Package and their time of arrival is after 9:30pm a transfer from Westend Backpackers to the airport will be offered in compensation. Parking Westend Backpackers Youth Hostel have a discounted parking arrangement with the Capitol Car Park (entrance Campbell Street, next to the Capitol Theatre). Please ask Westend reception to stamp your parking ticket before you pay to redeem this discount (normal rate AUD 30, Westend Backpackpackers discounted rate approx. AUD 22 for overnight parking).
