The York Priory is a period-style Victorian residence, that was converted into a hotel in the 1930s. Situated in a residential area called Fishergate, the guest house is only a 10-minute walk to the city centre. The riverside promenade and historic attractions are in near reach, as well as restaurants and bars. Ample free parking is available on site. Famous for the twin Gothic arches in the secluded gardens, the Priory offers comfortable accommodation with en suite bathrooms. There is also a licenced bar on the premises and a full English breakfast along with a variety of cereals, fruit and yoghurt served in the dining room. Attractions in York include Cliffords Tower, the National Rail Museum and York Minster.

Me & my friend & her little companion daisy, had a lovely time the priory made our holiday, lovely staff we had a wonderful welcome when we arrived :)home from home, I've stayed in lots of hotels up & down the country 5 stars but I have to say the priory was outstanding they thought of everything, great breakfast, beautiful gardens, we will return, & can't Waite for our next visit :).
all reviews » Just a short walk from the city centre, this is a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. The garden is beautiful, with ruins and lovely flowers, and big enough for guests (and their guests) to sit in the sun without being on top of each other. Nice that there is a bar, and a big car park just at the back.. First time using the York Priory, really friendly homely atmosphere, staff very helpful, chatty and easy to talk too. Loved having the dogs to pet and play with. The breakfast was really good value and now that my son will be going to York Uni will be back and using the York Priory most defintely. friendly reception, large room, real milk available from downstairs at all times (including mini flasks), very clean, great location for uni visit, lovely atmosphere, good breakfast- especially practical use of self toasting!. the room was very comfortable and nicely decorated.The breakfast was well cooked and there was plenty of choice. The hotel was within easy walking distance of the city centreand all staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely old building with lots of character. We had a cool view from the window and the possibility of a wee ghostie in our room!! Good parking with a nice walk along the river. Lovely garden out the back. Our room was on th road side so we could hear a fair bit of traffic noise at night, but I was glad you could open the window- I hope they don't put in sound proofing or something to address this because I like an open window!. The shower was ever so slow but warm enough. Busy road at front - to be fair we stayed on warmest night of the year so had to have windows open. Rooms on higher floors and at the back will not notice the road noise. We had a problem with our room. I asked could we be moved but the guest house was fully booked. We were given a small discount at the end of our stay but I had to ask for it. It would have been better if they had suggested a discount themselves. Also at breakfast geusts are allowed to come down in their pyjamas. There was a barking dog in a neighbouring room. I realise that the hotel is dog-friendly but their needs to be consideration of other guests too. Otherwise, we enjoyed our visit. Nothing really,but if you staying to front of house you might find traffic noise from road a bit loud at times,but didnt really bother us to much as we where there for one night. nothing. Doors looked as if forced at some point in lots of rooms. Rooms at the front are a bit noisy if you aren't used to traffic. Our particular room was tired and in need of some TLC. Bathroom particularly. Lovely stain glass but too much condensation resulting in some mould. Carpets also need changing. Dim lighting - had to take lampshade off bedside table to read. There was nothing to dislike. nothing. No double glazing so the road noise is intrusive if you are at the front. nothing really - all good. room was a tiny bit too hot. Room with twin beds, last floor.The shower door had been broken, the curtain that was put there was too short to reach to the bottom part of the shower cabin. Water was running outside the shower...it was slippery..dangerous. Couldn't access free wi-fi Far too warm in room. On arrival had to wait for others to be attended to which took some time and we were tired having had a difficult journey Not shown to our room just given keys with directions to our room By the time we had got to the third floor we needed oxygen! Would have liked valance on beds. The superior room we stayed in didnt have aircon and the windows didnt open, however there was a portable aircon machine but this didnt help much. ----. it was a bit expensive for room only. Shower a bit slow, however £77 for four of us and breakfast I am not going to grumble. N/A. The amount of stairs to get to room. Cold room, breakfast disappointing. Rooms in need of updating. Shower curtain did not meet tray resulting in water across floor. Cheap shower curtain which was not weighted clung to your boody when showering! As with many other hotels there is no option for a 'light' breakfast. I refuse to pay £8 for toast and cereal although my partner really enjoyed the full English.
