Superb for the price,excellent location! the best in york,warm and accomodating staff,efficent check in and check out service,smiles allround,the staff looked happy to be there and always said hello,good morning,good afternoon and evening waw,definatley will be returning!. Everything, the staff, the rooms, the food all of it was fantastic, it was my husband's birthday and it was a complete surprise for him and the staff made the whole stay an absolute pleasure and we are definately going back in April next year.

Reception staff initially were unhelpful but later it was resolved with good grace. Breakfast on Sunday morning was very slow. telephone didn't work. had a poor breakfast experience - food was excellent but wiating-on staff were most unhelpful. had I known the single room was so small, only accessible by 2 flights of stairs, and relatively airless, I would have been inclined to choose and pay for a an upgrade.The courtyard bar area was understaffed on the evening of my stay and so service was slow. I was not told that my room was up two very steep flights of stairs (I am 76 years old) until I was shown to it.Bistro food was overpriced and not very good. The room was small. It was a twin room and the beds were right together with no space to seperate them. There were a few hiccups at breakfast on the Sunday. It would have been nice to have shampoo in the bathrooms.Felt the dinner in the bistro was priced a bit on the high side, but a good choice of menu. Bistro was a good use of the space available, however no other diners at the time we ate, bit disappointing to find it so quiet!. My room wasnt as good as I expected since the bed wasnt long enough and I guess my room was above the kitchen and there is no view afterall(poor view and no view are just different) The wall was so thin that i can hear anything happened in the corrider even with Tv on. The hair dryer was broken which was quite annoying.the staff where not very good with the service, especially the bar and restaurant. wouldl not recommend eating in the eveing in the main restaurant which is a shame because the quality of the food was good just very poor service. However, the room was exceptionally small and very dated in it's look. It was not in keeping with the hotel and did not represent value for money therefore.
