Definitely best choice for Edinburgh. Have stayed at Balmoral 3 times already, and every time was an exceptionally pleasant experience. Love the superb location, warm and welcoming atmosphere, excellently polite and helpful staff, relaxing SPA area. Strongly recommend Number one restaurant for a delicious haute cuisine dinner.. The hotel in general is nice to stay if u have enough budget. Very close to train station and just a short walk to Royal mile and some other attractions. In addition, the food served in Number one restaurant were really delicious, could be the top rank of 1 Michelin starred I have had so far.
all reviews » Absolutely everything. The attention to detail was amazing, from the lovely welcome at check-in to the Anniversary macaroons in the room for my parents. Every member of staff we met was lovely and friendly. A well deserved 5 star rating. The whole 'Balmoral-experience' is luxury and decadence throughout. The Number One restaurant is the icing on the cake. The hotel staff are so very polite and welcoming; my lady friend and I are already planning our next visit!!. Very good hotel in tremendous central location. Particularly good is travelling by train as adjacent to the station. Close to all the shops, restaurants and a short stroll to the Royal Mile and Castle. Staff excellent throught. Everything, the friendly staff, the food, the comfort and ambiance of the entire hotel. Excellent position of the hotel for sightseeing, shopping and just chilling out walking in the Princes Street Gardens. Excellent location, right on prices street and close to all the shops. The price of £455 was on the steep side - even for a Hotel like Balmoral - you can get better value at The Ritz or The Dorchester in London for that price!. The hotel is overpriced.room was small and bathroom while very clean was a bit old fashioned. Nothing negative to say. There was not enough cupboard space in the room to unpack. The windows were a bit small, and we felt a bit claustrophobic in a hotel with such great views. We would have prefered a room with bigger windows.Nothing at all. Very positive experience. We were placed in room 150 and noise was very loud from outside which kept s awake. Some confusion with the girl who showed us the room as her English was wayward resulting in a misunderstanding. Air conditioning noise. Bookers in confirming my booking quoted breakfast at £16+ which the hotel said was not appropriate (£21 being the price). The very over-priced buffet breakfast - this is served everywhere and I would expect something special from the Balmoral. Having to pay for wi-fi.....when the room tariff is already so high!. Can't think of anything. £6 per hour or £15 per day for wifi is exorbitant at any hotel but offensive at a luxury one. Rooms good but still had feel of old rooms with new decorative items. Walls need good art. The view from our room - looked out of the window into a brick wall for our 3 day stay. a little bit on the expensive side. Nothing. Bathroom a little cramped. With the high room rate, room is a bit too simple, except the bathroom is good. Seems over priced and I don't know why they charge for wifi - no one else does and they are much less expensive overall. Four times we had to go to reception as our swipe key wouldn't work. Turn down service on the last night was offered @ 9.30pm ... we were already in bed. Limited seating in Hadriens Brasserie, twice we were turned away as there were no vacancies :(. The communal rooms are not up to 5 star standards. Bedroom service. Unable to give us a dinner reservation at time we required. couldnt stay longer. The rush at breakfast. The difference in the room size and facilities when booking online and we asked for a view of the castle which just didn't happen. No tea making facilities. The people at the front weren't very friendly and welcoming. They charge for an iron. No wifi. Lounges/ bars full of day visitors and restaurants fully booked.

The Balmoral, Edinburgh will be making further improvements to the hotel in early 2018. Hadrian's Brasserie and the Balmoral Bar will be closed until the end of April 2018. Alternative restaurant and bar facilities and services will be available for guests during this time. The Brasserie has been arranged in the lower gallery to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner services, and drinks in the evening will be served on the first floor balcony. Works will be carried out between 9:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday. No works will be undertaken outside of these hours and the property will endeavor to keep noise to a minimum.
