Very nice stay, very friendly and helpful, Breakfast very nice, I would stay here again.every thing was wonderful!! the staff were lovely, just like home from home. The comfort for the guests is very high and breakfast is realy formidable.Everything, owners were very friendly and helpful, rooms were lovely. First class facilities. Excellent, friendly service at all times. Bespoke, delightful guesthouse at excellent prices. breakfast and general attention to detail. Enjoyed the quiet and pleasant stay at the hotel. Clean, friendly staff! As I knew about their relatively quite late breakfast (which was excellent a la carte one) it did not make my stay there worse as had to leave eralier one morning. The owners were very pleasant and helpfull concerning all aspects of our stay. The room was delightful and the breakfast superb, especially the offer of bucks fizz every morning.Breakfast, location and of course the staffs. Breakfast was excelent!. Lovely room and hotel, lots of character, very friendly hosts. They were very helpful and organised free parking for our stay. The friendly welcome, the helpful manager and his wife, the lovely breakfast, and the decor was beautiful. The look of the building was great with very friendly staff. the personal feel, the breakfast and the bedroom decor. Location was close enough to walk to city center. Nice selection of dvds for guests' use. Breakfast was good. We could not work our TV in teh room, but as I had my laptop with me, I would not have used it much antway. A little further out of the town centre than anticipated but that was probably my mistake for not checking distance, however the buses were very good. Parking was very difficult as we had to trail round the streets looking for somewhere. This would be the one reason I wouldn't recommend. slight noise of the boiler could be heard in the bedroom. the room was behind reception and you could hear everything, but other than that, it was very satisfactory. Carpet in room needed cleaning, close location to city center also meant lots of street noise at night.

Breakfast at Southside Guest House is an important occasion! Breakfast is served at individual tables (one per room!) set up with linen. We try to cater for most tastes and feature the famous Southside Grill or the Vegetarian alternative. We regularly cater for guest on a Vegan diet.
Each Day we also present a Special Dish or Ingredient which is of course also included in the price of your room.
Cheeses, oatcakes, bakery and fresh fruit salad, complement the hot selection and we offer an excellent selection of teas and coffees including cappuccino, espresso and latte.
You may have to give lunch a miss!!

Southside does not have a restaurant or bar. However you will find Edinburgh's restaurant and bar scene very rich and diverse. Most types of cuisine are well represented and many restaurants have won critical accolades...and of course Edinburgh's pubs are world famous!! There are many neighbourhood pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes walk (5 to 10 minutes) from Southside. Travelling information
From East end of Princes Street take North Bridge to the Royal Mile, continue South bound along South Clerk Street for approximately 1km. Southside is on the right hand side at the start of Newington Road.
From the motorways, join the City By Pass (A720) and get off at the Straiton Junction, from here take the A701 into Edinburgh. Follow this road the whole way into the city. The road is designated A701 the whole way. You are getting closer to Southside ( 8, Newington Road) as you turn on Craigmillar Park, Mayfield Road, Minto Street and then Newington Road (different names for the same road and still on the A701) We are right on the corner with West Preston and East Preston Street.
