The hotel is friendly, clean and excellent value for money. It is situated a short walk from town, has some very good restaurants and pubs nearby and is a ten minute walk from an IMAX. It is also a short hop to the zoo. There is parking available but this can be pricey, or if you want the take the train it is literally over the road from Haymarket station. We have stayed here twice now and will definitely be returning. It has everything we need on the doorstep and we always enjoy chilling .
all reviews » The room was spectacular! Great services within the room, eg. Ironing board, hairdryer, bath, flat screen tv. Plus 24 hour reception and friendly staff! Great location only a 10/15 min walk to the city centre and Edinburgh station, while haymarket station is 5 mins away! Great bars, restaurants and cafes a few mins away! Great for a couples get away or a city break!. Rooms large and comfortable. Good sized bar although small choice of malts. Reception very friendly, offering advice, offering to provide continental breakfast outside normal serving hours. Less than five minutes walk to Haymarket station and next year (2014) will be less than 5 minutes to the tram connection to airport. The location is very convenient for buses and trains. The rooms are much larger than any other hotel rooms we stayed before. Staff are helpful. The hotel is unique, not many like this left. People complained about the water not being hot, etc. we didn't have any problem during our stay there for 5 nights. Extremely friendly staff; very close to the city centre (just a 15 minutes walk to the Royal Mile, and it's a fun walk in some of the best streets of Edinburgh); comfortable rooms with great bathrooms. Once again: praise the staff; all of them were very kind and helpful. The staff was fabulous; beds comfy; location excellent: We had booked this hotel as our first taste of Scottish hospitality and loved it so much we booked additional days. The rooms were very cozy and "authentic" in décor. Added to the entire motif of being in Scotland. The staff were lovely and so helpful to us when we were looking for shops and restaurants. The design of the hotel was reflecting traditional features which makes me feel so good. It has a good location ten minutes to Princes Street Gardens on foot. Room was large (specially comparing to London hotels), old-style and very cosy. Friendly staff, not very far from old town (about 20 minutes by foot). The fact that we left our luggage the whole day without a charge. Also we checked out half an hour late without an additional charge which is great!. 2 minute walk from Haymarket Station (which is a 2 min. train ride to Waverley Station). Only thing I didn't like was there was a lot of road works being done very close to the hotel so it was a bit noisy in the morning, but other than that no conpliants!. Absolutely nothing that I did not like. The breakfast, We are only offered toasts. Luckily there's yoghurt. If you could get the lowest rate then you can't complain, but if you pay much higher rate, then it's not good enough. A few problems with the Wi-Fi during one day; unlikely to be a long- lasting problem, but a problem nonetheless. No wash cloth...US citizens are used to having a wash cloth to scrub with...towel and hand towel. If I had to pick on something, the chandelier and art work needed a dusting. Other than that, everything was fantastic. The decor is a bit dated and wallpaper was peeling in parts but the room was clean and warm so it didn't really matter. Nothing to not like. The decor was a bit tired looking. thats the only down side for me. Thin walls, no elevator, no electronic keys. The limited wifi access in the rooms. Mine had access to the hotel's wifi but I guess all rooms should have access to the Internet. Shower (very low pressure - more like a drizzle than a shower). No lift, so it was quite difficult to carry our luggage. none. Breakfast was on the poor side, by the end of our stay food was very limited. When booking was told a traditional scottish breakfast would be served at weekends which did not appear. Luke water in the bathroom, no adapter for European travellers (after my stays in England I considered it natural for a hotel to have one in the room). We asked for a room on a lower floor and got one on the highest. Otherwise, good place to stay for that money. Nothing applicable. could use a spruce up, bed a little tired, roasting hot weekend with no air con/ fan available. Reading lights in our room did not work and only one was replaced when staff was told. letsbookhotel.com did not send out my request for a ground or 1st floor room, and there wasn't one available on these floors when we got there. The staff found us a room on the 2nd floor and were kind enough to take our luggage up. My mam wasn't too happy climbing up and down two stories. The twin bed mattresses sagged!!!. Our room was above the kitchen and the chatting woke us up 7am on Sunday morning :( music in the breakfast room could have been better. Bad WIFI reception. room too hot beds not very comfortable. Just the fact that our large bed were 2 small beds joined. Wifi wasn't accessible on 3rd floor. noise outside hotel due to roadworks. In need of a little bit of a makeover very dated and worn decor. Faulty bath (sags 1/2" when filled), lack of room ventilation. Room opened into front foyer. Stairs may be a problem for older couple as may be the problem of a shower over the bath. some rooms need renovation. Rooms needed some updating eg plug sockets near beds and bedside lamps and fridge as was very hot during our stay. Also the room and ensuite rather tired looking - avocado bathroom!. As the hotel has several floors and no lift we did request rooms on lower floors but got 1 room on the 2nd floor and 1room on the 3rd !. Stairs!! Over 70 to our rooms. Rooms were dated and carpets needed a good hoovering. Needs upgraded. Having to per-book a cooked breakfast, attitude of some serving staff, no easy parking. Room not made up from previous guests when given our key. (Evening arrival too?) Very dated needs considerable refurbishment.breakfast poor continental option only. Parking difficult due to restrictions although there is a car park 7 mins walk away. The canopy in four poster bed and drapes have not been dry cleaned I would guess since the 1950s. The carpet is rotten. Travel king with 2 70 year olds whose room was up numerous flights of stairs is ridiculous! If I had known there was no lift, I would not have booked. But biggest problem is old dust... For an asthmatic and one who suffered from anaphylaxis this is life threatening!!. not much space to sit at reception, the stair carpets not very safe. The location at this time a bit tricky due to all the road works going on. Over-egged description Forgot room service one day No cooked breakfast. dated, needs upgrade. We got a good deal of £50 for a superior king room. The hotel is "tired" at best but that sais we had a comfortable night. Room grubby, sink in particular, hotel in general very scruffy.
