The staff were brilliant. So willing to accommodate us, we are vegans and normally when we travel and stay in hotels the staff do not even consider accommodating us whereas here they made it look easy, we were generously given a wonderful breakfast. The room was beautiful, very clean, warm, comfortable. Great value for money. When we visit Edinburgh again we will stay here!. The guest house manager, although new at the establishment, went out of his way to assist me. I was preparing to leave on a 3-day bicycle tour the next day, so his help was invaluable.all reviews »
The room was really spacious, clean and comfy beds. Would definately recommend, use buses to get into city centre though as it is really difficult by car. Fantastic - i was welcomed by Mr Happy. He made sure our stay was as plesent as possible. fantastic......would recommend it and stay again.Friendly staff. Excellent location. Good quality service. I have no real complaints about the guest house, but it does not reflect the price charged.I enjoyed having a key to the front door, so that it was easily accessible at all hours, and I didn't feel tied down to a kerfew. room was very quiet. The guest house is quite close to the town centre and there is also a bus stop nearby. It is opposite to a park and there is not much traffic around. Thus it is quite calm. Compared to other accommodations, the Thistle Guest House offers really low prices. I couldn´t find anything cheaper. Staff (one-man-show) is nice. It was on a good bus route. The bathroom repair was done badly, the room smelled of paint and there were strange noises from the pipes. And there were two quite large spiders in one corner of the room, not good if you hate all kinds of crawling insects and such. the breakfast was fairly poor, and the decor of the rooms mix and match and a bit cluttered. Some of the expectations of me as a guest were misleading, for example - having to place a sign on the door IF i wanted the room cleaning, and having virtually no toilet roll at all. Furthermore the breakfast was very simple and minimalistic, with almost no choices. additional fees for additional service for breakfast: 1 Pound sterling per egg, 3,50 Pounds a full scottish breakfast. The breakfast is poor and the rooms are small but considering the low prices, there is not much to complain about. Personally, I would very likely choose another accommodation for my next stay and spend a bit more money. Still, value for money is good. Very poor breakfast, very small room for 3 adults, tv didn't work.Shower room could be cleaner, only bath towels no head towels, notooth mugs. The room was supposed tyo be non-smoking buit the reek of smoke wasawful. The beds were uncomfortable and the room very small and cramped. i hated everything about it.

We are 10 minutes by bus from central Edinburgh. From Princess Mall(train Station) a taxi will cost approx GBP 5. A bus 12 0r 25 will bring you yards from our door step costing approx 90pence per person travelling. For Airport arrivals, either a airport taxi or airport bus are readily available outside of the airport. Taxi can be an expensive option, however airport bus's are very reasonable. We are approx 30 mins from the airport.
