I loved everything. With 9 people ranging from 11 to 78 yo, we booked two family rooms and one premium twin. Rooms were clean, furniture new -ish, bright, comfortable. Loved how toilet, shower and sink were all separated to maximize usage. Kitchen was the best: all stainless steel, clean, white dishes and utensils were plentiful. Everything was clearly labeled, all rules were clearly displayed and communicated. Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. We also used the coin-op luggage storag.

Also easy to find and not too far from Princes St/bus/train stations. Plus there was no rowdiness from other guests. I highly rate this hostel. The stuff are very nice and helpful. The location is good as vell. About 15 minute walk to the railway station and prince street. In considertate of the money paid, it's a quite nice choice... I like the kitchen as it is really clean and well-equipped with all kinds of utensils. It's also big enough so that many residents can cook at the same time. Restaurant kept clean and tidy. approx 15 min from princess st. warm, clean, hot shower, value for money, spacious compared to other hostels, stuff very helpful and polite. Quiet at night, even though there was alot of younger people on the same landing. It was a really hot night so we had to have the windows open so it was impossible to sleep because of the noise of the traffic. price for luggage storing if haven't booked a room is expensive. no free wifi. Paying £1 for 20 mins of Wi-Fi is quite expensive... This is actually the only negative remark I have. Rather pricey for a hostel. Banging my elbows on the wall when getting dried after a shower and the bedroom overhead light being switched on during the night when later visitors arrived. Nothing. It was all good. Requested a double room but given a twin, bit of a dampener for the wknd. Three old ladies in my room were snoring all night long :( Was exhausted on the next day of my trip. Next time I will just ask - is there any old lady in the room that I'm going to stay in? If yes, it's probably no hope for a good rest... Bike storage was down narrow steep steps and wasnt very clean. Gate had a lock but couldnt see any CCTV. The heater did not work very well. Toilet is clean but a bit smelly. Don't have free facility for leaving the bag before check-in which is 3:00. Only coin machine to deposit bag. check-out at 10pm. The noise levels were shocking with kids in a communal room next to ours running about the corridor till 2am. Room layout was strange...2 sinks but no wardrobe. Kettle lead so short it didn't reach the table. receptionist is cool. I don't think I am welcomed at their hostel. A school party arrived on our last night and were allowed to riot around until well after midnight. I don't blame your staff but I think it should be made clear to teachers that they are in charge and that sort of behaviour is unacceptable. no mat or board to stand on after shower. Can't drink the water in the rooms. What is that about?. Mate snoring... shower did make strange, loud noisy when using it. a little far.... Breakfast is not included, luggage storage available for extra payment, towels are not provided. it was a bit expensive for an early check in. Nothing!. Noisy drunks at 01.35 on the Friday night /Saturday morning. Drunks again on the Sunday morning 01 30 and again at 04.30. Fully aware that they were on a night out but the foul language is unnecessary and very loud. Why isn't someone patrolling corridors at night?There are no phones in the rooms--- everyone does not have a mobile! Third visit and will not be returning. As I was put on room 7 in the basement there was a constant noises of furnitures being moved around and footsteps from people walking about in the restaurant area - I am not sure what would be the best solution from the management point of view - but it would be fair to mention that to any would be guest to occupy such facility. I was too tired to ask for another room. That apart, otherwise everything else was excellent. Loads of teeenagers!. Internet and Wifi is expensive. But if you buy internet, they give you free print service. Several stops from railway station by bus. Taps stay on too long in male toilet ground floor.

SYHA is a charity aiming to inspire all, especially young people, to broaden their horizons, gain knowledge and independence through new experiences of adventure and discovery. In support of this aim, all bookings will include a temporary membership fee per person per night. (Full, existing members of SYHA and HI using these channels are not entitled to a membership refund). From the age of 5 to 15 years, young people must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and may be accommodated in a single-gendered shared room with the parent or guardian and other guests, at the discretion and responsibility of the parent or guardian. The young person/people, the parent/guardian and the other occupants of the room must be of the same gender. When booking for more than 9 persons: 100 percent of the total amount may be charged any time after booking. Please note the following cancellation charges will apply to the entire booking: 57 days or more - 20% of total cost 56 to 29 days - 55% of total cost 28 to day of arrival - 100% of total cost SYHA advise that additional notice be given to the destination youth hostel when travelling with children, to ensure that suitable accommodation is available. Contact details can be found on your booking confirmation. Parties with young children (under 5 years) will only be accommodated in designated family rooms, where available. There is no capacity for extra beds or cots in a shared dormitory or private accommodation. No stag or hen parties are permitted at any youth hostel. Depending on location check-in is either 15.00 or 17.00. Please check these times as stated on your reservation (or on Booking.com) before arrival. SYHA does not accept American Express cards as payment or guarantee. Should guests be entitled to a refund or part refund please note that these are processed by SYHA National Office, Stirling. It will take 7 to 10 working days from the date of the property receiving guest's request for the refund to be processed back onto the original card used. Please inform Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation. Please note that the full amount of the reservation is due before arrival. SYHA will send a confirmation with detailed payment information.
