Central location, room was fine, bathroom clean, shower water hot, breakfast not free but very reasonable. I wanted to spend as little as possible on a hotel room and have more to spend on activities so this hotel was a good choice for me. the price was really good wasnt sure what to expect with it been cheap but the staff were so friendly and very welcoming. the rooms were of excellent standards very clean would recommend this to any one. all reviews »
In particular,the staff were very pleasant without being pushy. We will return - an excellent base as it is central without the noise of a city. They were very friendly and very understanding when I had to leave 1 day early for personal reasons not within the 24 hour cancerlation period.Very friendly and helpful staff, cosy and warm room, excellent location, nice bathroom. It was nice to have a kettle in the room. Everything was fantastic but must give a special mention to the staff especially the receptionists, they were out of this world.very friendly,helpful staff - very comfortable accomodation in a very suitable position in Edinburgh especially for Playhouse. short walk to the city centre and the reception staff were extremly helpfull with tourist info. it was homely and very friendly and made welcome we would go back to this hotel. The staff were helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended for value for money and location.The very very friendly way in which the front desk staff , including the manager helped us with our site seeing itenary and our smallest of small queries were answered with warmth, which we highly appreciated. There`s a shop just round the corner and lots of restaurants and pubs around. Hotel is close to the train station (about 10 minutes walk) so you can get there easily from the airport as the bus drops you off at the station. There were plenty of information leaflets available in the hallway. The bedroom was small but well laid out and the bed was very comfortable. I arrived late at night after a long flight but I was made welcome and could still get a snack and drink which the night porter did for me. Location and value for money were excellent. The street the hotel was on was fine but I did have to walk through some somewhat seamy areas to get to it. I have no particular complaints about this as I never felt threatened but when recommending this hotel to a single person or someone taking a family, I might mention it as a caution. there was nothing i didnt like about the hotel. My only problem was the bedding on the single bed I had was to short for the bed. Not that it made much difference as I only stayed one night, but I foundit a bit odd that despite there being ample space in the hotel andbathroom there wasnt anywhere (a wardrobe or even a clothes hook) whereI could hang anything up. Had to make do with the back of a chair.Shower flowrate. Did not like being woken at 4am by a group of load,drunken men and women playing what sounded like football in the hall-not something the hotel can entirely be held responsible for but staff could have taken some action. Our room was on level 1 ... below street level ... no problem with that but the fire door at the stop of the stair leading down to our room was wedged open throughout our stay. Could be quite noisy sometimes, doors banging and creaking floorboards. TV was positioned far too high for a such a small room.No complaints about this hotel at all. They do not have any left luggage facilities, so had to be punished at the station left luggage department with £6 an item! Not impressed!. One of the rooms had nowhere to hand cloths. Not during this stay. I had a chance to glance at other rooms while they were cleaned and they loooked ok as well.The breakfast wasn't great and the menu wasn't clear. I wasn't sure what was served with what. The coffee was awful. The decor was a little dated and it does need a wee tarting up but all in all I had no complaints.The hotel has high stairs and I have not found the elevator. Breakfast is not included in room price. It was not clear from booking.com site.Internet only on groud floor. No tabasco sauce or worcestershire sauce for my bloody mary!. I love the black and white bath room and mentioned to the receptionist when i had a bath it was spoilt by the stain on the tiles from the shower she said the managemnt knew about this, I liked the biscuits in the room on the arrival day but did not get them on the second day NZ email : imcbain@xtra.co.nz. The beds was a bit hard :P. Small bathroom, shower was a bit of a squeeze.
