The quiet Victorian guest house is just southeast of the city centre, which is within walking distance. Ben Craig is well located for many Edinburgh Festival venues. A good breakfast is served overlooking the garden.

We enjoyed the beatiful and clean room. Had a lovely short stay with no complaints. And we had a lot to choose from for breakfast. Excellent location with bus stop at the front door; quiet, pleasant location; good size room, clean, tidy; great breakfast. Warm, friendly, very convenient for buses, comfortable, clean, breakfast excellent with nice views of garden. Good location with nearby restaurants. Clean rooms with decent breakfasts. Lovely gardens out the back.

Why not mention there is an indian restaurant just over the road?. bus stop is right in front- hard to know how to get to it the first time- include the buses that go in front or the name of the park that is further down the street to help identify the good bus lines.Bus stop right at the entrance, great breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, free internet, walking distance from the city centre and Holyrood park (2 km). The inclusive breakfast was very nice.Continental breakfast was awesome. The room was huge for the price and there was a wide choice of breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It is very convenient on the main road south of the city with buses every 5 minutes and a bus stop right outside the hotel. Check in was quick, rooms clean and well equipped. It had a shower but no bath which was not a problem. The furnishings in the bathroom probably need updating but it was clean Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in a first floor room overlooking a main road and found it a bit uncomfortable to have the curtains open during the day as people on could see right into our room. Would recommend putting lace curtains up. Apart from that we had a lovely time!. Car was hemmed in by other vehicle as only 3 spaces - may have been a problem if we had used car/left early. Decor/furniture/curtains needed updating. Sky tv kept going on and off . Small serving are for some of the breakfast items. Not really, all ok. Matress was a bit uneven, no shelf space in the bathroom. No common area to visit with other guests. the televison in room 5 was impossible to watch the picture and had no sound, and when I asked for a replacement was told that was impossible.Not really but we were a bit worried when we arrived and couldn't get in at first. time for breakfast: only 1h and between 8 and 9 in the morning! too early, if you are in holidays you are going to miss it every morning!. Bedside lamps didnt work, neither did the freeview on tv. The jammed door to our room. A window latch was broken so did not lock; we were on the ground floor at the front. The shower pipe was cracked so water leaked before reaching the rose. However there was still plenty of water pressure. Toilets were too small.the bed was not particularly comfortable, small (4 foot 6) and the duvet was not a feather one. Uncomfortable bed, Breakfast between 8am and 9am (too inflexible). The staff didn't seem entirely clued up on the area, and so felt that our only reference point was the guide booklet in the room. broken bed lack of towels in the room when cleaned. not enough sundries left.Levels of cleanliness were not too good. Some of the towels and table mats were stained and one of the light switches was not screwed into the wall properly. Only supplying 2 tea bags per room per day seems a bit on the tight side!.

Directions From South M6/A74 From the A74 take the A702 through BIGGAR, which will bring you on to the A720 City Bypass. Join the Bypass where signposted 'Edinburgh South & East'. Leave the Bypass at the first junction marked 'Straiton Junction', join the A701 and follow the signs for City Centre. After 2.5 miles (4 km) bear left onto Craigmillar Park. Quarter a mile further on you will see 'Ben Craig House' on the right. From South M1. Take the A68 from Scotch Corner, through Jedburgh and Dalkeith. After Dalkeith the road will merge with the A7 where you follow the City Centre signs. After 2.5 miles (4 km) bear left onto Craigmillar Park. Quarter a mile further on you will see 'Ben Craig House' on the right.

ALTERNATIVELY: Take the A1 round the coastal route and join the A720 City Bypass as you approach the city. Leave the Bypass at the first junction (Sheriffhall Roundabout) and join the A7 signposted Edinburgh where it merges with the A68. Then as above. From Glasgow The M8 Motorway now terminates at a roundabout known as the 'Edinburgh Interchange'. On the roundabout take the third exit signposted 'Edinburgh South & East' and join the A720 City Bypass. Continue on the bypass until Straiton junction, leave the bypass and join the A701 as for M6 traffic. From North M90 Follow signs for City Centre, Princes Street, and Berwick Upon Tweed A1 & East that will take you along Queen Street. Go right at the roundabout ('All other routes'), keeping John Lewis on your right. Go straight on at the traffic lights and left on to North Bridge, keeping the New Balmoral Hotel on your right. Continue straight on until the road becomes Craigmillar Park.

ALTERNATIVELY: follow the signs for City Bypass and proceed as for Glasgow arrivals. (This route, although slightly longer, avoids all city confusion). From Edinburgh Airport Follow the A8 trunk road to the 'Edinburgh Interchange'. Follow signs for A720 Berwick and South then continue as above (from Glasgow). By Rail Exit from Waverley Station by road entrance turning right up on to Princes Street. Cross over to the shops side for buses numbered 3, 31, and 69 or 80 travelling east. Bus will immediately turn right on to North Bridge. Travel along the main route until shops finish and Hotels/Guest Houses commence. Exit on Craigmillar Park outside the Ben Craig House. Bus journeys should take around 10 minutes.
