The 23 Mayfield was a total delight! The staff was amazing - everyone seemed like genuinely nice people and happy to help. The hotel owner even gave us an excellent advice what to do and see further in Scotland and let us leave our car in their not so big car park even thought we stayed for only one night. Our breakfast was a real gourmet treat. Our room was very cosy but stylish at the same time. The old city centre is just a 5 min drive by bus. Totally recommend!.
all reviews » Ross was a very welcoming and relaxed host. He provided us with some good recommendation for locations to visit whilst in Scotland. Breakfast was a gourmet experience with a great range for vegetarians (i had the Campbell's vegetarian haggis both mornings). Room was tastefully decorated and a good size. We enjoyed a cold beer in the oudoor room, which was just what we needed after a full days travel. Cosy and charming. Hosts have clearly gone to great efforts to make this an upscale B&B, and have succeeded. Leaving a sitting room for guests to gather was a nice touch. The hosts are also friendly and attentive. The location is good; right on several bus lines into city center. (And walkable distance also.) Probably the best breakfast I found during my 30 days of traveling. The whole experience of staying in this 19th century guest house was an absolute pleasure. The building has been refurbished to an outstanding standard and we where made to feel welcome from the outset, the room was extremely well laid out and to a very high standard and the breakfast was the best iv had. I would highly recommend. An Incredible way to experience edinburgh! From our arrival the staff were friendly and welcoming, going out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. The breakfast is incredible, beyond words! Bus stop right outside the hotel and only takes 7minutes to get into town. All in all it was a perfect stay. Bed was a bit knackered in my opinion, but my girlfriend thought it was very comfortable. Nothing about the accommodation but just a wee comment about parking habits of other guests - people evidently do not bother to read instructions to park within designated wooden marks (in the backyard) or simply do not care. When we arrived three cars were parked occupying spaces that could easily accommodate another one had the earlier drivers been more considerate. n/a. not one thing. Can't think of a thing. Nothing I didnt like. Perfect!. Nothing. Nothing. Car parking charges in city. There was absolutely nothing to complain about. Despite the air of luxury the dark wooden panels gave the room, it was a bit too dark. Brighter lights and a translucent curtain, so I could open the window and retain my privacy, would have been nice. Only one thing, may want to put a bath in.
