The rooms were reasonably sized. We could keep and open 2 big bags while having enough space to walk. The kitchen was very small but it was fine as we cooked for our kids only. The hotel and rooms were clean. For the price and location, it was a good place. The staff was very courteous and helpful and this place is about 2 tram stops on tram 10 or 10 mins walk from Zurich train station. The Astor is a short tram ride (uphill) from the train station - take #7 towards the zoo and get off at the first stop once the tram turns uphill after crossing the river. The unit we had has a small kitchen that was very handy. The beds are comfortable and the rooms on the back side of the hotel are very quiet. There is a free laundry machine! We absolutely loved our stay here.
all reviews » Quite near to the main railway center (5-10 mins walk UPHILL, not much a problem for us.) Otherwise very near to the old town strip. The tram line runs in front of the hotel, stop just a few steps away. Great staff. Very helpful. Great fast wifi connection. Considering its Zurich, won't complain for its price. And its convenient to walk about. Good location, very close to the Zurich HB metro station- 8 mins walk and tram station just outside the hotel connecting you into the city and to the railway station. Made travelling very convinient. The room service lady keeps fresh towels and makes the bed and cleans the room daily, its very welcoming to come to a clean room everyday. The location was great and for one of the most expensive cities on Earth, the price was great. It is right near the train station and the happening night life area of Zurich. The price was very reasonable. The room and amenities were fine for the one night that I was there. It was a better option than staying out near the airport. Enjoyed having more room to move around after staying in hotel rooms. Convenience of having kitchenette and laundry facilities on hand. View was good over Zurich from our room and just a short walk into centre. Close for trains, bus directly outside and free car parking. Friendly and helpful staff when needed with good English. The astor hotel is a perfect location as its only ten minutes from the main train station. We stayed there on our way to salzburg and was so impressed with the value for money we canceled the hotel on the way back and stayed here again. It's clean and there's a lift and the staff are very friendly. We liked everything.It was late arrival for us so I called to Sandra and she explained me how to get the key. Tv wasn't working well at all times (not that it matters if you are out exploring the city all day) Might not be a good place for light sleeper considering the tram runs in front of the hotel. The reception closes very early, there should be someone atleast till 12midnight. No air conditioning. The rooms are basically apartments and there is someone there from 8AM to 8PM. If you need to check out before 8AM or check in after 8PM, or if you get locked out or need anything outside of these times, you could run into trouble. Sometimes a little noisy from street below. Shower tiles all cracked and carpet worn and stained which let the otherwise very clean apartment down. Nothing. - no kettle; - no airconditioning; - extremely small sink at the kitchenette; - room layout is not very logical: the door from the kitchenette always smashes in the door of the wardrobe. - noisy street: don't forget ear plugs!. No aircon so it got really stuffy when the temperature hit 30 degrees on the 13 June! The rooms face West so the full brunt of the afternoon sun hits the rooms! The fan provided was working but had no chance to cool the room down. Luckily the temperature cooled down in the late night when the rain mercifully came. The rooms also face the main road and you have to contend with the sound of the trams just outside your room till around midnight when the tram service stopped. There were no negative experiences at the Astor. Nothing. At times the room was very warm. Nothing unless you arrive after 8 pm. Nothing much to fault, just that the mini-fridge did not worked. Just stay here!. Hotel is significant uphill climb from train station - very difficult with suitcases. Our first room had no internet service and a broken leg on desk chair. We asked to be relocated and were. No AC. Frig. was very small and noisy. Room was small, no a/c, but have a fan. 2 double beds were indeed singles. We need add an extra bed for 40 Swiss Franc more. -. no temperaturecontrol for the room, room was very hot. Right next to two tram stops. A bit noisy during the night. Faint room design, sometimes noisy street, but that's just nitpicking). No telephone in the room. No morning call through telephone. Hotel rooms are not soundproofed at all. We could hear all night snoring and other noises form other rooms. Windows are not soundproofed as well, our room was on a road side, and it was very difficult to sleep. 1.Dirty floor in my room. 2. Check out time at 11.00. Could be at 12.00. 3. Not enough lights in the room. My table lamp did not work and I could not figure out how to make it operational. After 8 p.m. the reception does not work. that we had to dheck out rooms at 11, that seemed unusual. this is not a negative just letting you know that the meal / kitchen area is only for basic cooking / heating of small meals. The noise of the trams and the hotel room was hot. Room faced the street Weinbergstrasse. This is a very noisy street with the auto, truck, and motorcycle traffic. But the worst noise was from the Street cars that run from very early 6:00 am until 1:00 am. Even with the shutters down and the windows closed it was quite loud for sleeping. steep sloop going up the hotel (should have taken the tram), should stay longer in room to utilise the equipment. Room was too warm, opening windows invited a lot of street noise. Poor breakfast. Again and I think this the only problen with Astor. It's the bad sound proofing. the room smelled horrible, disinfection smell stayed roughly in the room, had to keep the window open almost all the time. The rooms and furniture were a little old. No air conditioning, steep hill up from centre. The tram noise was a little disturbing at times but no big deal. lack of insonorisation. little bit noisy in corridors. if your windows closed - you never hear tram.
