We stayed one night at the Plaza Mayor and wished our stay in Madrid was longer. The hotel is an old traditional building with charming features. Our room was a good size with everything we needed. The bed was so comfortable. and everything was spotlessly clean. It was so close to the wonderful Plaza too and near many good restaurants. We took the tour buses which were a great way of seeing Madrid in comfort. Oh and the breakfast was superb! Thank you!.

Single rooms are very small but if you are looking for just place to sleep, perfect for money vs. quality,service,comfort and location. Easy transportation possibilities from the airport (one bus and 4 metro stops). Great location, just next to Plaza Mayor, lots of coffee shops and restaurants, 5 mins walk to metro & renfe station. Single room was quite spacious, big wardrobe, comfy bed, nice working desk. Would recommend this hotel for a weekend break as it is excellent value for money. The hotel is conveniently located to Plaza Mayor and Mercado Central, a lively place for tapas and variety of food. A very clean room with a quiet air conditioner, 100 m away from one of the most famous sightseeings - Placa Mayor. Since the city is compact, living in here is very convenient. Excellent location near everything. If you are driving call the hotel in advance to ask for parking (limited to one spot) or you will pay 30 Euros per night at city garage. Room was a bit small and the bed a bit hard (nb we are not spring chickens!), but still very good value. - Unstable internet connection (the staff had to re-install it from time to time). Definitely, the internet capacity of the hotel is insufficient for the number of guests they host; - indeed, the noise isolation is poor throughout the hotel. I woke up to the cleaners' cleaning in the morning. The towels - very thin and harsh and the room was very warm. There was nothing to dislike. Extremely hard beds! Also person in bed directly under airconditioning unit got very cold, whilst rest in room were ok. Would be good to have a hairdryer in the room rather than having to go down to reception each morning to get the communal one. They supplied us with big double pillows instead of individual pillows which are impractical for couples. However the staff were helpful and were able to add one extra single pillow. Sheets and towels quite threadbare. The receptionist who checked us in way incredibly rude. We had just made it to Madrid after a very long flight and being awake about 36 hours, and she was not being hospitable or welcoming at all. Every other employee we had contact with was very friendly though. Breakfast not included, and somewhat expensive, in a fairly cramped bar area up front. We ate breakfast outside on Plaza Mayor. Best not to drive in madrid, streets are very narrow and names change every 100 meters and the street names are on the side of the building and you cant even see them until you turn on to the street. No heat in bathroom. The room is quite small, but its central location more than makes up for it, and it was still good value for money. It is also an older building, so the room did smell a bit when you enter initially. Just needed a bit of airing out. Luckily there was a big window and lots of light. Breakfast not included and beds a little too firm for my liking. Reception staff not helpful or friendly. Some rooms were too small. Difficulty with wifi Very cold bathroom.
