Have stayed at El Convento many times over the last decade. It is an Oasis in Old San Juan which is an Oasis in itself. The convenience to the City walls where one can walk by the sea and watch the ships come in is truly special. One can understand how peaceful it must have been when it was a Convent. Friendly, efficient service and always willing to oblige with a smile. We did not know very much about San Jaun prior to our stay now it is a favourite destination we would thoroughly recommend to all our friends. A big contributor to this has been the Hotel El Convento.
all reviews » The location in Old San Juan was unbeatable, the staff was consistently at the top of their game, the hotel itself is beautiful, the onsite dining was superb, fantastic wine and cheese reception every night. All in all a perfect stay. The outdoors plunge pool and small jacuzzi on the top floor, plus the free wine and cheese each evening. This afforded opportunities to meet other guests as well. Also a lovely location for Old San Juan. Highly recommended. In the heart of Old San Juan -- great for shopping and sight seeing. The Staff was very friendly, very professional, always willing to help or assist. The hotel is beautiful, right in the heart of the city, within walking distance to points of interest. Everything about the hotel accomodations were exactly what I needed. Everything!. Classical historical setting. The location and quality. Nothing to report. We had to wait to get into the hotel after the stated 3:00 for signing in. We were given a courtesy breakfast coupon which we used the next morning, but it took 10-15 minutes to have it authorized. Not professional. Water in shower was never cold but not quite hot, either. It was diificult to call the pool, pool. A little bit bigger than aa bathing tub. Room service was quite late. Our beds werenot done until 3 pm in the afternooon, which did not bother me, but can be annoying if you want to spend some time in your room around lunch time. A little noisy at times. That I was only there for 2 days. This was not the hotel's fault but more what we dealt with by booking through a third party. Booked a queen bed but when we got there they could only give us two singles, not what we wanted.... We finally managed to get a queen bed but it wasn't fun to start our vacation having to argue over what we had requested through letsbookhotel.com. The elevator was damaged. We only stayed one night. Arrived in the early evening and left in the early morning. The food in the restaurant was a bit over-priced, but yummy nonetheless. Nothing. The fact that we were given a twin room rather than a double. The fact that several aspects of our room were not working as they should. The stuffiness of the tapas restaurant. The fact that the hot water for the tea on floor 3 was not hot. maintenance improvement needed, some restaurant/bar service improvements. Everything was grand. elevator was a little scary. disorganised checkin. Nothing. They tried to change my room to accomodate other people. Don't ever order room service food.They can"t get it right. I was very disappointed I booked a luxury room with a view and was put in a newly ,nearly,finished room 104.This had no view is on the ground floor had no desk and was dingy and still cost me over $800 for two nights.not good value.
