First off, Flåm cannot be missed if you're in Norway or Scandinavia. Must check it out. The staff at Fretheim were very helpful and friendly. I was running to catch my train so I didn't have time to thank the server at breakfast but if he sees this thank you very much! He was so sweet, he explained where everything was to me the moment I walked in, he told me what the dishes consisted of and he was just super nice all-in-all. The receptionist was even more helpful, told me where to go, what to.
all reviews » The town of Flam is in a beautiful setting at the end of the Fjord- we went hiking and it was breathtaking- so beautiful- I would recommend renting bikes and riding back to Aurland- along the Fjord, a beautiful setting- the bkie ride from Flam to Mrydal is only for people who have experience- it is a winding path, steep mountians and lots of uphill- only do this if you are in shape and know how to ride a mountain bike- you could also walk this trail or part of it. Lovely hotel with massive rooms and massive bathrooms. Lovely view from our room (which was at the back) looking to the mountains with a door which opened out onto a paved area at the back. Breakfast is one of the best we had in Scandi. Hotel is literally right infront of you if you get the express boat into Flam from Bergen. A truly beautiful trip!. We loved the stay at Freitheim Hotel. Very well located next to Flamsbana and at the end of the fjord. Room clean with all the comforts. The hotel has a terrace with a great view. The price is reasonable if you buy in advance. You have to get used to that Norway is a very expensive country. Good choice. The taste of their food wasn't impressive but very very very pricey. letsbookhotel.com doesn't properly book some room types. Hotel mentioned this is a known issue. I wanted the corner/junior suite so that we had room for the family, but the site put us in their historic tower suite which is amazing, but not big enough for 3. Hotel quickly fixed. I suspect that a quick email to the hotel after booking will ensure you have the right room type. Nothing. Wifi didn't work in our room & there wasn't a view of anything but a little building. Short staffed at the front desk. Nothing at all. from the fjord view room on the 3rd floor we couldn't really see the water as there is the port buildings and other ships docked there most of the time. so i'd say all the rooms are mountain view. nothing. Breakfast. Not tasty. It's expensive! But, as all travelers say : it's Norway!. Nothing. Parking is a bit far from hotel entrance. Not much storage in the room. The room at night was very warm and no way to cool it down except to open the balcony door. Which didn't want to do for safety reasons since we were on the second floor. Again we booked through letsbookhotel.com web-site and ended up in an older room. Always ask for the newer room. Our balcony had green mold on it and the balcony door would not stay open. My 14 yr old granddaughter ended up with some strange bug bites on her neck that morning. It was a bit on the pricey side. Late check-in. Room ready at 4 p.m. Would have liked to have the room available right after arrival of the Flambahn - around 1 p.m. The beds were too soft. The dinner buffet was very expensive and not a very good value. Drinks were very expensive- more so than usual. The free standing tub was great but the shower curtain was such it was impossible not to flood the bathroom floor. A la carte service at the restaurant closes too early, and dinner buffet is ridiculously expensive. It is a big problem to find a reasonable place to eat after 8 pm in the area. expensive. The scenery is spectacular but Flam itself as a town is not very interesting, though there were sea kayak tours. poor breakfast, overpriced dinner, view of standard rooms, the sauna was broken. bed setting, no TV, radio doesn't work, weak wifi signal. None. it's relatively old. Huge cruise ships tie up in Flam. They dwarf the village and there are too many people in the daytime until the ship leaves. Flam isn't what it used to be. the food we had wasn't excellent and therefore too expensive. This was my 2nd trip to Flam and the Fretheim Hotel - I was less impressed this time - both with the room (much smaller, despite paying more than last time!), and the food (buffet not very good for alot of money!). - Late check-in but unavailable for late check-out. Impersonal Busy. Heating problems and at low season restaurant served only one item for dinner with no flexibility. Food was ridiculously priced. No option other than approx $100 per person if you only have 1 drink. Drinks (glass of wine) $20 to $25 per glass for cheapest wine they have. Cold Empty hotel No atmosphere Small rooms. Our room was right next to the dining room, very noisy with doors opening and closing all hours. Spoiled the stay.
