The hostel is currently closed for repairs due to bust pipes. The Info Desk at the train station directed us to the souveneir shop. The shop is run by the same people and a man kindly gave us a lift to the new accomodation in his van. The replacement accomodation was in a far better location close to the train station and ferry terminal, and was an apartment with two bedrooms which we shared. The apartment had a great view from the loungeroom and was a fully equipped house. Great value for mone.
all reviews » The location is excellent, just 3 mins walk to railway station and port. Monica is very kind and try to pick up us at railway station even we drive by ourself. The hostel do not have so many rooms and we shared a three room apartment with an Italian family. The room for our family is too small but Ok for a one night stay. It is better to stay in bigger room if you have an older child, however the price is quite reasonable. You can park your car free just in front of the hostel. The kitchen is f. The hostel is a former barn, which has be splitted in almost 20 rooms. The owner lives in the neighbour house. Everything is in wood in there and it is not very soundproof. But even if I stayed just above the kitchen (equiped), the sounds were okay, as long as anybody walks around. But it is acceptable. But I merely disadvised this place for a family with a child. The Wifi is free of charge. The bedlinen is not included (you can have yours, or rent it), neither the breakfast (but there is a ki. It was our best night's sleep of our trip. The staff was extremely helpful and nice when getting in. There are multiple properties, but the staff will drive you after you check in if it's far away (and from the rumors, they all have similar accommodations). The main house where I stayed is 300 years old, so there are some quirks (our room was on the top floor and those stairs felt more like a ladder!), but it was clean and in good repair. Free WiFi. I appreciated very much the staff's hospitality, especially for being greeted in my mother language as I set foot on the entrance (portuguese); Seemed very clean; Despite being a few distance from the center, it is located in a nice farm in the vicinity, which is ideal for someone who wants to experience the local life; my window had a view to the cascade, what a nice sight and sound I had each morning... Such a beautiful house, a great location: near all the travel and food facilities you need, but just a km over the hill, so you feel like you're in total mounain countryside. It is far away from other hotels but still with less than a 10 minutes walk you are in Flam center. The 3 toilets were really clean and unfortunately my plan was not using the kitchen but it looked fully equipped. Several common bathrooms, so there is usually no problem despite the house is always full of guests. Really attentive personnel, providing even more information stuff than Tourist Info has. Beautiful waterfall near, which balances the need to walk 15 minutes to boat/train station. I like the location as it's pretty close to nature, and I like the old wooden building itself. A small hostel so you get to know everyone in 10mins, a good place for one-night stay and conversation. We stayed at one of the 'farmhouse' (not the main building/reception). It was simple but clean and has an amazing view. We went hiking to the waterfalls nearby and enjoy the scenery. The staff looked so exhausted and flustered we didnt have heart to let them know this, but it would have been appreciated if they had sent an email to avoid the confusion. We missed having a kettle but we didnt see one in all of Norway so perhaps a Norwegian thing. We used a pot with lid, so not a big deal. Maybe the sounds, but when I stayed, it was fine. The bathroom is quite fine, however, you should take attention to not be the last to have a shower, expect if you like cold water... It's a bit far of a walk from the rail station where we came in. Wifi is only in the main red building. But it was not so far and there are big living room and kitchen to sit there. It was stated that check-in is before 8pm, but it's not a problem to check-in later. I recommend to write or call the owner beforehand and notify about that. Somehow i didn't like the fact that the listing of guest's arrivals of the day were exposed in the entrance door (i didn't asked why, though); the wooden floors can be noisy - fortunately in the days I spent there, people were polite and respected silence in due hours;. The house is alittle echoey and creaky at night, if you are a light sleeper you might be disturbed by footsteps and noises from other rooms. It is a bit of a walk from the station, although I didn't think it was too far. No soap provided in bathroom. The lady is nice but she's too busy to handle everything, we have to wait in hostel for 30mins before check-in. Wifi doesn't work well. Being a 300 year old barn, it doesn't insulate sound well and you can hear people walking etc. but it wasnt a bit problem for us as everyone was quiet. Need to walk about 1Km but its perfectly fine if weather is good. Noise from first floor at night and not a good idea to walk from Flåm station (about 20min) especially when it is raining!. The Wi-Fi is a little unreliable, but besides that everything was amazing!. As we are getting used to in Norway...this location is expensive for what you get...a small room in a hostel with rented linens. The wi-fi to our rooms was broken requiring us to walk to the main house to access the internet. Also heavy construction woke us early in the morning. It's out of the village. With luggage, it does feel a bit far. If you are an elderly, try asking at the Flam souvenir shop if someone can give you a lift (same owner apparently). it was a bit odd -- when we arrived to flam, one of the hostel staff complained that we hadn't answered his phone call from a few hours ago (in a foreign country...). i guess as a result of this, they had double-booked our room so we (two guys) ended up having to stay the first night in a room with only one bed. however, it worked out ok because they did have a spare single mattress that they put on the floor for us. the next night we were able to move into a twin room. No soap or towels in the cottage. it's quite far away from flam train station if u walk with heavy backpacker. u have only mountain view there. There were three rooms and we shared bathroom/toilet, which was a little a bit inconvenient. the room might be a little bit small. the one i lived in has a bunk bed and no chairs to sit on. you have to walk southwards from the station for 15minutes, it might be a problem if you arrive late 'cuz the staff will not be there after 22:30. Little more cleanliness in kitchen & beds to be more comfortable. they charge you extra for sheets, but sounds like that is standard there. the single room is very small, if you just stay one night that it is alright, the bedline and towel is not free of charge. Nothing. Far from train or ferry. Of course, if u have a car, that's nothing. Much better than the Hostel rating suggested to us coming from England. We had a 1.5 Kilometer walk to check- in. Then we were driven back to town. There must be an easier way to register. It is a very long walk with luggage. I was locked outside when I first arrived. I never got to meet the owner. I almost had to go for them to pay for my stay. Too far from train station by foot.
