We liked the convenience of the location. Walking through Hagley Park and on to the Botanic Gardens was great. We also walked to breakfast some mornnings at Vic's (a great spot!) and dinner at various restaurants. The desk staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. They were always ready to help us with directions, etc. We dealt with Joel mostly and I wanted to express our graditude to her for being so helpful. The free Internet was great, especially since that was our only connection .
all reviews » The ability to check in late (1.30am in my case) by prior arrangement was much appreciated. The hotel is close to some really nice places to eat. It's far enough from the centre to not feel like you are in the middle of depressing devastation, but close enough to walk to the Re-Start Mall and things that are still open (like the excellent Canterbury museum) in the centre of the city. The staff were very helpful and the rooms and beds great.We had a lovely quiet room away from the street noise which when you live in the country is really appreciated. Thanks douglas & Vicki. The convenient location with easy car parking. The size and quality fittings of the room (crisp and clean). The restaurant on site Strawberry Fare - great food & very accommodating stuff. It was close to the city center (even though most of it was blocked off at the time). We enjoyed how close it was to Hagley Park and the Arts Museum. The staff were great and helpful. We loved that we could walk into the centre of town and that there were plenty of restaurants to have dinner at very close. The fact that it is almost next to the park was great. the comfy bed the water pressure breakfast delivered to our room the night before. the balcony the snuggly blanket & 2seater chair the lamp with pull string. Staff very helpful. Restaurant attached to the hotel that was useful for breakfast which was verY good. Within walking distance of centre and Hagley Park. Every request I made was met effortlessly. I was only there for a very brief overnight transit between flights. Alarm was set and taxi booked for me. although it was close to a main road the noise was very minimal. I also could not hear any noise from the other rooms. Great parking. Very clean. My stay was excellent, with staff being very easy to deal with and friendly, room was lovely and clean. I will stay again when I am in CHCH. Staff very friendly, heater kept it warm even though it was below zero outside. Had been refurbished with new carpet, bathroom fitting etc. The position of the Carlton Mill Hotel excellent for walking into the city of Christchurch and around to Parkanaki Rd, to many restaurants!. We stayed here the week before and liked the area so we went back. It is really close to the city centre so easy to travel around town. Walking distance to the park,the city,other shops near by.The staff were excellent,could not of been more helpful. Friendly and very helpful staff. Comfortable room with good facilities. Nothing. Everything was great. almost see-through bathroom glass windows - when sitting in the restaurant you can make out people in the bathrooms!. We were a little concerned that it was on a main road and could have been noisy. It wasn't. noise from the street noisy guests in the hotel the soap dispenser that was broken/not working/empty no chairs on the balcony difficulty in accessing bedside power points. Nothing. the only fault was driving into the complex...the road works did not help but if you were coming from harper ave the left turn into the hotel could be treacherous because of the traffic using the free right of way on the left. High cathedral ceilning better in the summer than the winter. No elevator. Nothing to dislike. Nothing. No lift facilities for first floor accommodation. a little hard to asscess from both sides of road by car. Nothing to complain at all. Access from main intersection difficult especially coming from city end of Bealey Ave. Bed (double) was extremely soft and had the "roll together" factor as springs not in good shape, both my partner and I has sore backs in the morning. Access to the hotel. The restorant nearby should have some special breakfast for guests. My room got all wet after a day of rain. location is just ok, not the best. Shower over bath, more slippery with mat than without. Easy to have an excess of water on floor. Nothing. Uncomfortable old beds. Lighting poor for reading. rain dripping from gutter no parking outside unit fighting to find electric blanket plug behind bed difficult to get out from hotel lack of tv channels. Only 4 tiny milks per day, & had to use 3 for one cup of coffee. bed was too short no table to eat dinner on. Liked everything. We needed to ask the bar staff to turn the music down. The bar was closed and the staff were cleaning. The Hotel staff didn't seem too sympathetic and passed blame that it's a separately run business. The bed was only a double and was uncomfortable. For the money you would expect a bigger bed. Nothing. the fact that Strawberry Fair kept us awake crashing and banging till after 12.30am.
