I travel a lot for work and pleasure and I usually only write reviews if I had a really outstanding experience or a really terrible one - the Museum Hotel definitely falls into former category! I just came back from a two night stay there with my mother and was really impressed by the whole experience. I made my reservation through letsbookhotel.com and shortly after making my booking I received an email from the hotel confirming my booking, giving me helpful information about getting to the ho.
all reviews » I was pleasantly surprised when I checked in 'Museum' hotel. I thought it was something old, worn-down fixture, run by a certain family .... but no! This is a modern quaint, little hotel very efficient run with a small staff, well-informed about facilities and happenings in Penang. This hotel should be congratulated to be able to remain pristine, 'museum' condition with all the modern facilities that any 5* hotel can provide. The staff should be credited for being really courteous, polite and e. I loved how the staff treated us! We (four of us) came by for the penang bridge marathon, and when we came back from dinner, they left some protein bars and bananas for our run the next morning. They even gave us a wake up call for the run (and a bottle of water to go, with a note saying 'good luck for the run!'). I'd say the staff were a thoughtful bunch, even the guard at the door was friendly (and not the kind of 'friendly' you see at expensive hotels) the decor was very traditional, yet cle. The staffers' attentiveness to the guests' needs; felt like they have received the best training to anticipate and immediately swing into action to make you comfortable. The personalized treatment; upon check-in, you'll receive a welcome note from the MD. While I was out in the evening, they placed a small packet of biscuits with icing sugar in my room, again with a personalized note. Though the item might not woth much, the gesture was heart-warming as the biscuits were reminiscence of my chi. The hotel is very new and therefore it was difficult to find it and most of the taxi drivers did not know the street. However, when we arrived the staff were very welcoming, we were impressed with the room. the hotel is very close to the city centre and the free buss is two minutes away. The breakfast was awesome although you have to chose among few choices and inform the reception a night before. The interior of the hotel was good and it definitely suits the name. The staff were very helpful d. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly, cheerful and helpful. They tried to make our lives as easy as possible. They gave a one hour tour of a gallery collection of the hotel, which in itself looks like a museum with a great ambience. Location is good within Georgetown. We were travelling early before breakfast time the last day so they opened the kitchen before 6:30 AM just to prepare something quick for us. Seriously, we were really touched with how friendly they were. I would pick the hote. Converted from colonial shop-houses to contemporary boutique hotel, Museum Hotel combines comfort within an historical context. Walls display well-labelled items from the pre-WWII 'baba, nonya' culture which can be further explored during the 'in-house' museum talk by Tiffany. Service from all staff from check-in to check- out was excellent - professional and very friendly. We especially appreciated our inclusion in a staff lunch prior to our departure! Most of Georgetown is within easy walking. The staffs are friendly. In the evening, I had short tour at the museum with Tiffany and she explained to us in details about the antiques and culture of Baba and Nionia. At night, after I came back into my hotel room, I saw a dianthus with a piece of paper on my table. I was touched with the flower and paper as a token of appreciation for my coming. Next day when I was having breakfast, I accidentally broke a glassy pepper pot but what I got in return was a double-warm smile. Great place to. The staff is absolutely charming and made every effort to make our stay enjoyable. They prepared a list of to-dos that our children would enjoy and left small treats for us each evening. Totally delightful. The room was perfect for our family of four - no need for any roll-away beds. Great location that is near to the center of town but far from the noise (except for some neighbor dogs!). Also, we took a tour of the museum collection that is a must see. For anyone staying here. We loved our stay in the Museum hotel, Penang! We especially liked the uniqueness and the boutique feel of the hotel. The staff was very nice and we were greeted with a lemongrass refreshing drink upon arrival which made a nice impression and a positive feel. The service given by the staff was beyond excellent. They went out of their way to recommend us good places to eat and how to navigate around Penang. The complimentary biscuits with the added personal touch warmed me and made my stay even sweeter. The staff were the nicest and friendliest I have ever met in any hotel. They were so genuinely helpful and really we're the star attraction of this hotel. I'd stupidly left my iPad on an AirAsia flight. Not only did they contact the airport and locate it for me, they insisted on going to get it for me. Extremely friendly and well-intentioned staff Newly renovated property nicely decorated with nice "antiques" from Penang chinese tradition The standard rooms are comfortable enough considering the rate, although not huge and a bit claustrophobic as the windows only open to a narrow interior courtyard. The more pricey superior rooms are significantly nicer. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The location of the hotel was not on the gps that came with the rental car and they gave us very good instructions on how to arrive at the hotel. Furnishings in the room were good. Very attractive wooden finishings. Gave a homely vibe. Breakfast was provided and it was very good. Value for money. Truly overwhelming care from very helpful staff. The service staff are awesome and attentive to your needs. Everyone greets you with a smile. It's tucked in a distreet and senere local neigbourhood, it's very safe. It's walking distance to the attractions in George Town, Did I say super strong free wifi too!. The facilities are exquisite in terms of vintage design, craftmanship and culture. The staff was insanely nice and helpful. This is a beautifully restored and furnished colonial era hotel with a wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful staff. It is located just on the edge of the old Georgetown area on a quiet side street. The cheerful, helpful reception staff really made an impression. The ambience of the hotel was perfect and the room was ideal. The only constructive feedback I can give is that i would have been good to have had a safe in the room and I think it would also be good to have at last one local breakfast option on the menu - I live here so didn't mind the absence of this and loved my eggs benedict and egg and ham cups, but for my mum who is just visiting Malaysia it would have been good if there had been some more local options for her to try. Otherwise, it was faultless. The entrance to the hotel did pose a problem for me while driving because it sits at a remote corner of one of the most congested part of Penang! For first-timers, like me I had difficulty searching for the entrance and also each time coming in and out of the hotel. All other things are simply superb .... I gave this small, quaint, little hotel top marks when it comes to services provided. wi-fi is a bit slow, but thats it. location isnt exactly the best, but its in the center of georgetown and it should be fine if you're used to walking. besides, most places in penang require driving to get to so that doesnt really matter now does it. The bed made a creaky noise and the water pressure coming out of the toilet's faucet was high. The room type that we got had no closet. There were some hangers though so it did not really badly affect us. No problems. The bathroom was a bit of an awkward layout, but that was a very minor issue. There was no hot water in the afternoon in the last day of our three day stay. Zilch. Location is a bit remote (about 2 km?) from the core historical area, which is also the one concentrating hawker stands, cafes etc. Be prepared to walk or taxi back and forth... Hard to find if its your first time in the area. As the aircon is not centralized system, the local unit is not strong enough to cool the room and gets stuffy esp in the hot afternoon. the hot water needs attention. the room we stayed was for 4 people but there are only 3 chairs in our living room area. the "antique museum" is only open from 4-5pm daily which i did not get an opportunity to visit it since i was on a business trip. had some minor glitches in my room toilet & newspaper request but was rectified promptly. The duvets were a little heavy for our liking ..would be good to provide lighter weight option for those who require it!. Location may not be easy to be find & the road walking back to hotel is a bit dark during night time. There isn't much that I dislike. Just a maintenance note that one of the shower room door hinge (right of the entry) in 125 looked in danger of falling off. Breakfast could be improved. Although the dim sum served wasn't bad at all. Maybe provide more options. Having to leave... The location wasn't the best. The area was a little run down and you had to walk several blocks for a bus or taxi. The lighting in the room was not enough, especially, in the bathroom. Not many outlets in the room either. No food other than breakfast. Only small minus was the sound isolation, but as it is located in a quiet part of the historical center, I imagine that it can't be much better elsewhere. We are waiting for the swimming pool to be finished ... Too bad we could not enjoy it already !. It's sort of tucked away on a dark street. Wasn't an issue because we always took a taxi home, but could be unnerving if you are walking alone at night, especially on an unfamiliar street. There are actually two roads that lead into the hotel. I didn't check if the other one was lit. With that said, I did not feel that the neighborhood was unsafe. Just strange that it was so dark leading up to the hotel. the surrounding area, the hotel is located in a dark road, we didn't feel really safe walking at night. No safe in room, Limited breakfast options. Breakfast should be better and have more choice. Nothing. Nothing negative about our stay.
