Me and my girlfriend stayed for 2 nights in Kyoto, we wanted to try traditional japanese style room. But when we arrived at Ikoi No Ie it occured to us that it was the best choice apart of that what I mentioned. Spacious kitchen (with free cold drinks, coffee and tea), shared bathrooms and showers (very very clean), nice terrace and many many tips from previous visitors. Wheter you planed your visit at Kyoto or not, just look around and you'd probably find something intresting and worth seeing.
all reviews » A subway station a minute away, also very convenient to the main railway station, (15 min walk or 1 subway station away), in a true old fashioned Kyoto street. Not far to 7/11 & supermarket, we didn't eat out much as 'the right place' was a little more difficult to find (not Japanese speaking). Although the railway station would have sufficed if we had wanted more eating options. We had the top floor of an apartment 30 metres from the hostel & front desk and a couple of hundred metres. 1) Love the japanese styled rooms, enjoyed the experience of sleeping on tatami mats with super comfortable futons! 2) staff were extremely friendly, all of them! there is one particular girl who spoke excellent english. all of them dressed in traditional japanese oufits which made this place more authentic :D thumbs up!! 3) shared bathroom was huge! but the floor tiles were so cold, i had to literally run into the bathroom and turn on the shower. 4) shared facilities; ie seating area,tv, m. What a fabulous stay we had. No complaints whatsoever. Location is great as it is located in a residential/commericial neighborhood. So you feel like you are in real Kyoto living in a neighborhood. Great neighborhood restaurants steps away as well as the bath house for a traditional Japanese soak. Reception helps you with any questions and has plenty of info on sites and how to get there. In short- awesome staff. Thank you!!!. The hotel is tiny cute with free wifi. When you arrive, you have to call for the staff from reception which is located on next road but not long time waiting. The room is traditional Japanese style, very soft and warm blanket. There are shops and supermarket around the hotel. 5 minutes walk to subway. The staff were amazing and very helpful they know of great places to see and eat and can tell you how to get there easily and cheaply. The rooms have airconditioning a major plus in the hot japanese summer and everything is kept neat and orderly so you never have to look to hard for what you need. Staff is very nice and helpful, location is just one subway station from JR Kyoto and close to the next bus stop. Wi-Fi did work very well, next konbini is close. Reception building is very cosy and looks like a traditional one (might actually be one), including a nice Japanese style common room. Excellent, helpful staff with really good English knowledge, traditional ryokan style (loved that:) close to the station, bit far from the main sights, but close to several bus stations, so easy to reach the highlights of kyoto. Kimono dressing is a must have!. It's a taste of traditional Japanese style living without missing all the modern day conveniences. The small, but cozy nature of the room provided a wonderful experience for my family of four. The neighborhood was exceptionally charming. Close to train station, helpful staff, large rooms, clean and useful public spaces, nice residential area (although it takes at least an hour or so to walk to most of the main sites). Staff is good at English. The room is Jaanese style and matches the atmosphere of Kyoto. Location is excellent! just 10-min walk to Kyoto station, and many shops along the way. This Ryokan is very cozy and has everything we need within our budget, including Japanese-style room, common kitchen, coin laundry, etc. The staff is very friendly. My room was on top of the roof of an annex building about 3min away from the reception. it had thin walls, so it was quite cold. The low temperature shouldn't be an issue in summer, but the laundry machines next to it. So noise in early morning hours can be a problem. Pretty nice view from up there, though. Nothing!. Walls & ceilings were thin so you could hear the other guests very easily. want more hooks in the room to hang clothes. The door of our room was broken. We can't lock the door when we were inside the room. Others are fine. No staff on premise. We stayed in rooftop room, it's not convinced that we needed to go downstairs for toilet n shower.. Room was too small to lay out 4 futons and my 20 year old daughter slept in the cupboard for 3 nights. Fell down gap in floor by microwave in common room badly brusing my leg as not used to such seating. maybe a white edge would allow you to see where the floor ends. number of breakfast was limited. so we could not have it. noise. Small narrow stairs, we had problems as we were travelling with rather big luggages. Nothing. Noisy Walking distance from reception and bus stop. Cylce rent very cheaper, but bicycle were little bit in a bad way. Place to check-in unclear. The family room is too small for the 5 people, and there are many room in the room. There is no telephone in the room, very inconvenient to contact the front office. The blanket is too thick for summer time. It's quite hard to find the location. bathroom is very tight and small.. but there again, workable. Room is also small, just enough for the 4 of us to sleep. We stayed in a ryokan afterwards elsewhere and was better experience. Charged very high rates(booked online from nz) while others had rooms less than half the price, I consider I was ripped off financially..they said because of festival,i was unaware of this back in nz, room smelt mouldy!. It can be little bit noisy at night, because of families with young children. Finding the place was a nightmare, the breakfast does not include English black tea only coffee, the location is also not ideal with all the buildings located in different places which is confusing. Our room was at the 4th floor of this ryokan, had to carry the luggages up by ourselves. Bathroom is small and lack of spaces for our toiletries. WIFI not working at this room. The room was old and was in an annex on the 4th floor - a nightmare with luggage. Also, because we were in the annex, we couldn't receive any wifi signal. Not acceptable. It was also expensive for what it was (although, we did appreciate that it was golden week). I used my credit card to pay for the room charge and found that the staff has billed me in Singapore $ using a very unfavourable exchange rate. They did not check with me first if I wanted to be billed in Yen or S$ or US$. The room was really too Room was really too small for 4 people. A very unpleasant surprise was that when we paid with the VISA Card that the manager billed us in Euro at a very unfavourable exchange rate (without asking or adverting us), this has not happened to us in any other place in Japan, really a pity !. a bit disorganised & dilapidated.
