I highly recommend this great ryokan in Kyoto! Superb value for money, genuine ryokan & home feel, a couple of minutes walk from the metro station (from where you can reach all main districts of Kyoto within 5 to 15 minutes). Plus, no curfews, lovely garden, clean, spacious & authentic tatami rooms and bus stops to Kinkaku-ji & Ginkaku-ji a short walking distance away. A supermarket with a western style cafeteria is 3 mins walk away. Other ryokans like this in Gion area would co.
all reviews » We liked that we could rent bikes from the owner at reasonable prices (5 usd per day) - and it was the perfect way to visit Kyoto temples and tea house - on our way to Wise Path and Gion in the night the house is a genuine japanese house with tatami - but for those who appreciate this style - for my 2 m tall husband it was difficult :( also the ryokan is close to imperial castle (which is a must when in Kyoto - i've seen that it;s not such a recommended tourist attraction - but the guide tells . The owner sat down to help us plan our stay in Kyoto, which, while brief, was very enjoyable. The Inn was very close to the subway which worked well for our 2 day pass. We loved the courtyard garden which was at its best with cherry blossoms. We liked the Japanese style room, tea pot and cups, comfy futons and duvets,. Absolutely excellent. The manager was so helpful and nice (his english was pretty good too) and the room was big and clean and comfortable. The surrounding area was great too. I would stay there a hundred times over. Everywhere was just a walk away. Really nice. I loved it. Very friendly host and room was much bigger than expected. Comfortable futon and much more than what I would expect for the amount that i'm paying for! Toilet and shower, though not connected with the room was very clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful, especially with tourist information. in the mornings he let me know the best way to the golden pavilion and the other temples. The different multiple rules that the owner had - we were kind of disturbed the silence in this ryokan at 22:00 hrs was killing us - we were hoping for some conversation at a cigarette and a beer :) but I guess everyone was tired after many temple seeing. I awoke to find bed bugs had devoured my legs and found one still in my sheets. The room smelled of mold and very old tatami mats, making it slightly hard to breath if you have respiratory problems. The building is older, so if you are tall hitting your head on the doorways is a high possibility. The bedding is dirty, didn't seem like it had been washed in a while. Asked about bikes, but it didn't seem like he even had any to rent and said they were unavailable. After one day in the hostel, staff was very strange. We did not feel welcome and very controlled by the staff. The Hostel was not very clean. Our bedcovers seemd not to be washed for some time... We had several bedbugs. Bad!. The sheets were dirty. You have to be very careful when booking as some rooms do not have A/C. So if you want it, you have to pay 100 yens per hour (machine) if you don't want to be up all night, which is not very helpful after a day visiting Kyoto. The staff was not very friendly. Attitude Too Early to Shut shower. Room conditions was very poor and comfort level was very low. Place is very narrow, small and shabby. Any foot movement in other room was so disturbing. Bathrooms- only one for females, long que in morning It was not value for money. bathroom too smaII. The hosts were not professional or sincere, they just left the check-in sheet at the reception, with no instruction at all. Unfriendly owner, too much rooms and inconvenience for sharing small bathroom. There are blood bugs in the room and we can not slept.
