all reviews » Having stayed in hotels all over the world I must say that the Marker has been one of the best. Spent 1 night in the Marker as we were taken in the Ireland - New Zeland rugby match. The hotel is in a great location in Dublin, just a short walk to the city centre, and the Avia stadium, when we arrived we were greeted by friendly and helpfull staff. We received a free upgrade in our room. The room was out of this world, very mordern and clean. Spa was great and the breakfast was to die for. All i. We loved the hotel, in the top 3 I have stayed in around the world. The Room was fantastic with a extremely comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. The Roof-Top bar is awesome with amazing views over the bay The Pool/Sauna/Steam room are gorgeous and under utilised by most guests The in-room media is very well equipped (flat screen, ipod dock etc), and being able to control tv and menus via Ipad was cool. Free wifi throughout the hotel is also a nice touch. From the moment your car is valet parked, to the seamless transition from front desk to your very well appointed room, to the gym, lobby bar, some of the consistently best hotel staff I have ever come across The Marker is now my new favourite place to stay in Dublin. I can't comment on the spa as it was full during my stay. I liked the location, quiet, by the Grand Canal and only a nice 20 minute walk to Trinity College. The location was excellent for our purpose . The staff were excellent especially Barry who took care of our car on arrival and departure, he s a credit, very friendly and helpful. The pool and spa were very good and its location is great - 15 minute walk into the City Centre but it was nice to be bale to get away from the busy city centre and back to the relative calm of Grand Canal Square. The hotel is very impressive in theory; the rooms look great the decor is gorgeous, all of the equipment, fixtures etc are top Quality. We were going to a show in the Bord Gais so it was perfect for that. Reception, help with computer issues in their business center, good explanations about local attractions, gourmet food, huge breakfast buffet, friendly people on staff, modernartistic design everywhere. I would say it is closer to 30-35 minutes to Temple Bar for example. The fact that the Rooftop Lounge is closed on a Monday and Tuesday, which are the days I stayed. The weather in Dublin had been glorious and I was looking forward to seeing a new panorama of the city whilst enjoying a sundowner..not to be this time. Our only 'complaints' we're that there were not enough drawers in the room for two ladies staying for 3 nights and we felt compelled to live out of our suitcases. Also because of the design of the bathroom (no outside ventilation) there is a nasty stale, damp smell in the shower whenever the air con is switched off. Guests should be advised to keep the bathroom door open when not using it to avoid the room smelling. The hotel has just opened and has some teething problems. We did have to change rooms as the bathroom suffered from a rather unpleasant smell. Pillows a bit on the firm side Curtains did not stretch across the whole of the window and light came through at each side. just 2 small things,dinner was salmon and asparagus and the salmon wasnt fully cooked.Also when we got back from the concert at 10.30 we couldnt get anything to eat except for roomservice which was a stale sandwich for 17euro. Breakfast not included in prices but you get what you pay for I suppose. I thought that breakfast should have been included given the cost of the stay. We actually went out of the hotel and had a lovely breakfast for the cost on one breakfast in the hotel! It would be nice also to have another bar area as the one in the foyer is quite noisy. When we came back from our evening out, we retreated to our room as the bar was too busy and loud. The price for the room was quite high so I only stayed for one night as a treat, which still broke the bank. Because of it I will likely not stay here again unless paid for on business! Wish it were slightly more affordable. Also, the elevator frequently did not work as it should have with the room card inserted. I had to take the stairs a couple of times!. Only spend 1 night. The staff are uncomfortably attentive, to the point of it being awkward. Its like their willingness to not make a mistake overshadows their willingness to be helpful. Car parking charges are a joke. This cost should be included in the price or should be complimentary. The night we stayed our heating didn't work but we got an upgraded room and free breakfast which we were pleased with. We liked everything so there was nothing we didn't like. Nothing at all. Only thing we didn't like was that we only stayed 1 night , we could have lived there forever. Choice of materials around the pool is poor as it is very slippery and too dark. Marble in bathroom was superb but made for very slippery floor. Air conditioning in the room was poor. Lighting in corridor leading to and in toilets on ground floor was poor. Service in the bar on the Thursday night was very slow and the food was of poor quality. Hard to believe it was the same place as Wednesday's dinner. The menu in the restaurant wasn't my cup of tea. Unfortunately the roof bar was closed for a private function. Didn't like the quality of the linens. Nothing springs to mind. We werent able to switch on the heating in the sleeping room. Babies in the jacuzzi!. We were disappointed that the roof top bar was closed!. Nothing the whe experience was excellent. Can be difficult to find unless you take a taxi. we ask for room service late evening and for a sandwich and a soup it took long 40 min for delivery. breakfast buffet only average. If returning to the hotel after midnight, you could be waiting for a considerable amount of time outside in the cold before a member of staff finally opens the door. I felt my room lacked a "wow" factor...it was more like a very decent 4 star room rather than 5. Room felt a little cramped for two people. The pool was out of operation from 4 in the evening due to an aircon issue. It reopened the following morning. The lack of control over the heating especially as the room faced south and with the sun coming straight in the room became excessively hot. The so-called air conditioning made no difference at all and I suspect it was turned off for the whole hotel. car park access/egress. Also think car parking arrangements should be more prominent on website. Nothing. Having to leave !!!.
