I found Egans to be the best possible combination of a 'chain' hotel and a private guest house. It was comfortable - especially the communal lounge area - clean, and nicely decorated, with very helpful staff. My room had everything I needed and was very good value for my 30 euros. The buffet breakfast set me up nicely for the rest of the day. Overall, a very handy base from which to explore Dublin, near a main road for transport, but situated in a quiet residential street. I'll be back.
all reviews » We rented a room for 5 people. It was a full size bed, and 3 twin beds crammed together in a very small room. We only stayed one night here, so being crammed together one night was no big deal. We had our own bathroom plus there was a public bathroom right outside of our door. The lady at the desk was very helpful and informative. She told us of our various options of getting into the city, which is a good distance away. Members of staff are very friendly and helpful. We have arrived late at night and the night receptionist arranged the baby cot for us and gave us a kettle to warm up the baby food. Location is very good. Not far from the city center. Rooms are very cosy and tidy. Breakfast is great. Thank you for making our stay memorable. The staff people were helpful and friendly. It was within reasonable walking distance to bus lines. Located in a place that made it relatively easy to get out to the airport to pick up our rental car. The pub nearby was a perfectly good place to get a bite to eat. And enjoy a Guinness. Egan House is an adorable place to stay that is nestled right in a Victorian style neighborhood in Dublin. It was so relaxing and the staff would go out of their way to answer any questions you may have. It was very clean and comfortable and I was definitely sad to say goodbye. Very nice guest house in the suburb are of Dublin. The area is really nice. About 25-30 minutes walk to the city center, but bus stops nearby. The pillows were about the hardest that I have ever chanced to experience in any lodging arrangement. Was a little hard to find at first...like I said it is in a neighbor hood. No negativ experience. On arrival the steps to the hotel were covered in leaves and had not been swept, which did cause people to slip. The TV had poor sound quality. Nothing negative at all. Tripple room little bit small for three people. Front room was over door so could hear the talking of smokers who didn't use the rear garden. Room small (but confortable enough), small shower box. Breakfast was overpriced. Internet only really worked on the ground floor. The water pressure in our shower was terrible, and one of the corridors had an odor of vomit. We were on the top floor with lots of baggage, so carrying it all up 3 flights of stairs was not ideal. Though, the staff were so friendly I am sure they would have helped if we'd asked. A lift would be nice. Lol. We paid an extra €10 each for breakfast - but didn't expect streaky bacon. We would have expected back bacon We paid extra to park outside the guest house which again added to the cost of the stay. We had better value via a Supervalu break two weeks early. Not much choice of UK tv channels - BBC news would have been better than Sky. Lack of bedside table (room 38). Room decor was dated and dull. Breakfast was poor with a limited selection of "kiddie" cereals, watery orange juice and overcooked and cooled-down streaky bacon, scrambled egg, sausage and pudding. However, on receipt of my complaint, the sterling staff swung into action to compensate, to some extent, with fresh bacon and fried egg. I thought burnt streaky bacon was the preserve of older American hotels. noise, loud voices from the corridor, we could not sleep well because of it... loud people in the hotel during night. couldnt get wifi in room. I would have preferred coffee/tea facilities in the room but it was a good way to socialise in the lounge. No complimentary coffee, we went on to stay in another 5 b&b and all had coffee free of charge!. WiFi didn't work in our room. Trying to check out at 11am (the check out time) and the staff were having breakfast and it seemed like it was an interruption. Then my car was blocked and was back trying to get someone to move it. Maybe there should be a dedicated person at this time if the checkout is at that time. Breakfast was a bit too expensive. Hot water did not work in the early morning. Shower pressure very slow. Wi-fi very spotty - not able to connect from room across the courtyard, had to actually walk into room with computer. remote location from city center. No coffee/tea facilities in the room. small but clean and comfortable room. No tea/coffee in rooms. Room was at the attic with water pupm behind the wall (made some noise). Shower. Too far from downtown.
