The rooms at The Retreat are lovely and much larger than those at other similarly priced hotels in Agra, bathrooms are well appointed. Breakfast was excellent and the staff had a very flexible attitude towards guests knowing many try to get to the Taj early. The hotel food is great - we had the room service which was excellent and well-priced. Staff friendliness was second to none. Travelled with a group ranging from my 98year old father to my 3month old baby with children in between too. The hotel staff ensured our stay was as comfortable as possible by going out of their way to help us. They also assisted with finding a booking local attractions.
all reviews » A well-furnished room with modern style and hot water. The breakfast was OK. I could extend my stay to 14.00 without any extra charges. Free and stable WiFi. The staff were accomodating. Everything was good, not excellent. Room are big and nice. It is an up and coming hotel. The staff needs to learn how to deal with people from the west. Telling you what you want to hear is not the answer. However, the people were polite until the last day when they accused us of trying to run out without paying,. I had already paid the bill that I was given. The hotel is actually at a bit more than 1 km from the Taj Mahal. On the opposide side pf the street there is a souvenir shop where you can get presents at a medium price. The hotel is clean and coonfortable. Room, including the bathroom, was neat and clean. Staff..nice young and courteous Clean hotel. Clean and quiet. The location was cool because it takes a few minutes to get to Taj Mahal. good property, good food, but slightly over priced, nicely made rooms!!. Room was confortable Location. Checking out. Front-office male staff were not warm or welcoming however the concierge Sonika saved this from being a negative as she was so helpful and accommodating. As at many places in India there were problems with the photocopier and the credit card reader creating the usual holdups and hassles. Can't think of anything I didn't like. The location. Brekfast poor quality. 1.the staffs not so friendly. no alcohol served, water leak from bath room door. Nothing in special. Sometimes there was no hot water. We had our driver with us and the accommodation provided to him could do with some improvement!. Two days to repair a problem with connection to Internet. nothing to dislike. the elevator did not work,but the staff took our bags in and out. Location Pool No inhouse facility No bar. Difficult to locate the hotel. the pool water was dirtry must change atleast twice a day. BREAKFAST ...the worst food I ever had in my life in a budget hotel.No proper ripened fruits,milk was diluted with water,no fresh fruit juices..... :(. There was no security at night. I found the back door open and when I got up at six am, no one was in the front office. Outside the hotel there is nowhere to go if you want to go out and walk a bit outside, maybe after dinner. The streets and their side are impossible to walk because of the dirty and the traffic jam. Is true that the hotel il good, but it needs to be manteined, infiltrations on the walls, corridor carpet dirty as India's streets, shower that throws water everywhere except on your head... But to spend one or two nights to visit the Taj it's ok!. The access and the locality. Noisy room...buzzing all night Artificial window... claustrofobic. As I work in this industry I can say - Overpriced - Wifi (receptionist didn't get codes to guest under the reason it was not working adequatly) in fact it was working but very low signal - Impossible to have change on 500 roupies - Staff not efficient and cooperative for a 4 star, even in India. It`s too expensive to the quality of the hotel. Tried to be a luxury hotel, but wasn´T. Wifi not works in the rooms and in the lobby was bad quality Restaurant has a poor level. I d advise them to Visit the lemon tree , sarovar, best western chains for a learning. They charge 2/3 of the retreat and are twice as good. I may not repeat the retreat. The glass shower door had been broken. It still had shards of glass hanging on the hinges, Internet was spotty if at all. Staff not helpful. All had their hand out for tips. Wood floor was scrapped up. Just not worth it. The location sucks.
