The hotel was our perfect idea for a short stay in Shanghai.We stayed 1 night then went out sight seeing outside Shanghai.And returned to stay in same hotel on .Booking was done over the fly via letsbookhotel.com app on my iphone.Was amazed everything went smoothly.Congrats to Sofitel congrats to letsbookhotel.com for keeping a good reputation. The staff at the hotel were very good to me (father) and my 14 month old daughter who were travelling with my sister for for a few days, than on our own for a few more days. For the most part the facilities were very clean. Lobby and restaurant were very nice. Excellent location. I'd use this hotel again.
all reviews » The location is good. Its in city center and every easy to find, close to the Exit gate no.1. There was even Haagen Dazs in the ground of the hotel. The staffs were helpful and very friendly, smiley always. The buffet was awesome! We enjoyed so much French food there. We really loved it!. Very helpful staff - allowed me to make a reservation change at the last minute. Decent rooms with comfortable beds. The hotel is right in the middle of a busy pedestrian shopping street and close to East Nanjing subway. There is no noise at all from the street. Excellent location on Nanjing Road close to the Bund and shopping on Nanjing Road as well as Metro. Comfortable rooms with efficient Concierge Most pleased that the Concierge were willing to book fast train tickets to Beijing prior to our arrival. Concierge was particularly helpful. We booked a room for 2 nights in this hotel and they gave us a small room in 13th floor where is no Chinese wants to stay there I think. We expected the room much be better but finally we were disappointed about the room. Nothing. The floor above us was renovated and we had noise every morning starting at 9 am. I complained and they offered to change to anther floor.. The rooms are a little bit old, with carpet (we stayed at the junior suite), not compatible with the modern lobby of the hotel, but ok and clean. Hair dryer looked like a vacuum cleaner and requires an upgrade. the rooms need to be refurbished, as the decoration is getting a bit old (but in good order and clean); breakfast way overpriced (I went to Starbuck's instead). it is a shame that "people" approach you as soon as you get out of the hotel door on Nanjing road, to offer you copies of bags, and worse, prostitutes..... AC was was not working so sometimes times it was hot even with the lowest temeprature adjustment. No swimming pool. Nothing! Excellent hotel. Nothing. hard getting taxi high rate of transportation no facilities added with superior room booking like access to business center or lounge. Nothing. Breakfast not included and very pricey to buy at hotel. Nothing -- I stayed at Sofitel for four nights 27,28,29,30 September 2013 in a double apartment and again five nights 5,6,7,8,9, October 2013 in a Suite which was perfect. this was my second holiday stay at Sofitel. first was 2008. -expensive breakfast buffet. Nothing. Everything was super cool. Lobby is so small. Bathroom very small, even for two people; shower box missing; floor covering and quality of the finishing very poor. No a/c while the room was too hot for me ( above 20°c) Presence of a cover ('couette') rebuilt by the waitress: useless when so hot !. Rooms are small and seems to be not renewed for a long time which in this class hotel at this price level is not acceptable. We booked a junior suite and received an outdated room which looked from the 1950's. After our heater was not working we received a new room which was upgraded and modern. Think they should retire the old rooms. The fact that there was building works in the hotel and we were not warned and put on a floor near the works resulting in a very distrubed early morning sleep especially when there was plenty of vacant rooms further up the hotel. My receipt from booking .com stated had fully paid. On leaving was given an extra bill for cyn 146.83 vat which my documentation said I had paid. I reluctantly paid this but wondered if it was not a scam. No notice of renovation. Was woken up both mornings by workers in the room next to me. Asked for a different room away from it but same thing next day. room were very old fashioned. The staff in the Hotel is not quite friendly. I had requested two separate beds and two breakfast, it is clearly mentioned on my booking confirmation,, but the hotel said I have to pay for breakfast. So .. it was a hugh lose of face and money in front of the customer Regards Royan. the room is old,TV also very old,everything is old and simple. The hotel is dirty! They charge a lot for old rooms. The bed and pillows was horrible, the room smelt musky, the wardrobe automatic light would NOT go off at all...causing us not to be able to sleep. It was the worse place I have ever stay in...almost same as staying in a youth hostel except for more privacy. Very old hotel and staff not friendly. The hotel is absolutely disappointing. Rooms and amenities are ancient old and "fitness centre" is essentially 3 treadmills right next to the lift lobby. Most importantly, deafening renovation works begin at 0730 every morning! Don't understand why they would allocate guests just next to construction works.
