Warm and professional welcome at the front desk. We had booked a room with a shared bath and thought that the accommodations for the price were very fair - the room was small, sparse, but clean; bathrooms were close, roomy and tidy. The clerk at the front desk offered to upgrade us to a room with a larger bed and a private bath. We happily accepted. The room was large with a kitchenette - stocked with dishes and cooking gear. Room was very clean, you can adjust heat yourself, free wifi.. Staff was really helpful, advised us what should we see during our stay so it saved our time. I would strongly recommend to stay at this hotel because of great experience. As mentioned before- location is just perfect, everything can be reached by walking distance or metro if needed. We arrived a bit earlier , we just wanted to drop our bags but the man at the frontdesk was so nice, he said that one room was available and decided to upgrade our room for free! If u have a car, u can park it on rue saint laurent 1 min away for 20 dollars only a day! This hotel is in a very good location that is close to the subway and bus. It's not far to walk to the old montreal. It's also very close to a shopping mall that is part of the underground city. The main drawback is the shared bathroom but we never had to wait and they are kept very clean. We also chose this option on account of the cheaper rate. The stairs are a bit awkward with a heavy suitcase so pack light. Our room was a little hot, even with the window open. We stayed on the top floor and the WiFi reception was spotty, but we managed with it. It's on a fairly busy street, so if you're the sort of person who wants absolute quiet, you won't get it! Having said that, the traffic noise was pretty quiet really - I slept happily with the window open. Only fault of this building, I was on the third floor on the far side of the building. They warned me that internet would be "inconsistent". I could never get any of my devices to connect. Given that it is a historic building, it isn't surprising, but visitors needing Wifi should stay on the lower floors, closer to reception. Not a thing... WiFi - I had a room on 2nd floor and the signal was really weak. The breakfast was ok but not great. For me it was enough (2 toasts, a coffee and a yogurt), but some travellers could find it scarce. A bit loud at night. Maybe the sound proofing could be improved? Well, it was not a big issue, I slept well. Slept great, but the last night a cop was blowing a whistle till 2am right outside my window. The budget room we chose didn't have that high of a ceiling as anyone over 6'4 may have trouble in there. The photos didn't give accurate portrayal of what rooms were really like. Parking was not convenient. The hotel is up a long flight of stairs, and the rooms require a bit of stair climbing, too. The staff was super, and helped with the luggage, but older or handicapped folks should be warned. Lack of elevator, poor wifi signal at 3rd floor. No elevator, minimal furnishing in room, unhelpfulness of one staff member, "gritty" urban neighborhood. The fact that I got bed bugs. Leaving the hotel covered in bites and having to sterilize all my things has not been a thrill. Travelers with children (like us) be advised that the hotel is directly above an Erotic Boutique with fantastic picture windows. If you don't want to have that conversation with your kids while you're traveling, this might not be the place for you. Hard to think of anything. Oh. The coffee was pretty crummy. Wooden floor made lots of noise. Wifi dose not work on 3rd floor. - The shower walls were covered with hair that was not ours. - the shower curtain was very dirty to the point where it felt greasy. I showered sideways so the curtain wouldn't touch my skin. None. a little bit noisy during the night. The personnel was friendly, but once I checked out they didn't even offer to help me with my luggage (to take it down the stairs). Also, for a two-star hotel it was kinda expensive. Moreover, the breakfast was very poor. Surrounded by fast-food/low-end restaurants - had to walk 8+ blocks to find something decent. Yes, there's a sex-shop downstairs. No, it doesn't matter one bit. Expensive parking! No in-room coffee machine (but this could be a positive, given how bad they usually are!) Cold, cold bathroom (until we discovered a window cracked open). they didn't have ceramic dishes (only plastic which can't go in the microwave). Many steps to climb to get to our third floor room. It would have improved the in house atmosphere if there was the provision of additional entrainment. This. The bed were a little hard. I guess the rooms could have been a bit more modern but this is minor, overall a great value. WiFi not working in the third floor. Local district's retail offering - sex focus. Stairs.
