85 year old plus Uncle Fred took us to dinner while we were staying at the Harrington. Fred stayed at the Harrington in 1947, and leaving the hotel bumped into Harry Truman. &Quot;Where are you stationed, Soldier?" asked Truman. (Fred was in uniform) When Fred mentioned the small town in Virginia where he was working, Truman said "I didn't know we had anything going on out there". &Quot;Well, Sir, I'm in Army Intelligence" Fred replied. &Quot;Well, no one ever tells me anything!" la.
all reviews » If you are looking for luxurious, high class, this is not the place for you. However, this hotel is the perfect place to stay in dc. It has nice, basic rooms, very clean and provides all that is required. Most importantly, it is in a great location, being very close to all the popular tourist destinations. There is a fun bar in the lobby, and the cafe provides a decent, well priced breakfast. I thoroughly recommend this one. Hotel Harrington is within walking distance to many major sights in Washington. It is 2 blocks from the metro and about 2 blocks from bus lines. I took an evening tour on the Big Red Bus and it dropped me off at the hotel, excellent. I felt very safe on my own in the neighborhood even at 10:00 pm. As a 57 year old female traveler I felt safe and had free access to everything I wanted to see. Location. Right in the middle of everything. The hotel is two blocks off the Mall, one block from the metro, and close to some great restaurants. The staff, from the front desk to housekeeping, is friendly and accommodating.If you are expecting the Ritz, don't stay. The Harrington is 100 years old and shows its age. If you want a good clean hotel in a great location, check it out. The location was excellent. The room was spacious ( we had 3 beds) and everything was clean, although a bit dated. The bathroom was small, but adequate and sparkling clean. Breakfast at Harriet's was very good value and hot. And the waitress was charming. We were not ignored by any staff we encountered, rather we were greeted pleasantly and we left feeling like valued customers. The front of house staff are very friendly, welcoming and knowledgable. If they didn't know, they'd find out. The hotel is budget but nevertheless clean and my room was refreshed everyday. It's also old giving it a certain "charm", such that you can at times count the layers of paint in the woodwork, like the rings in a tree, to guess how old it really is. Excellent location downtown DC. Walking distance from major DC attractions. Parking facilities (it´s a couple blocks away, but affordable and parking it´s hard in DC). Small rooms and a renovation will be a good asset . It´s a building with almost 100 years and that atmosphere can help you to support some old look. Great quality/price. Hotel Harrington is the perfect place to stay if you want to really see Washington DC. It is located right in the middle of everything, so no time is wasted getting around. It's a plain, no frills hotel, but clean and quiet - you don't feel like you need to hurry back to get some value from your expensive hotel. It feels like a 1920's period hotel with a rich history and comfy surroundings. The historical photos add to its charm. I love closeness to everything in DC. Good location, very close to the Mall and all the monuments. The room and the bathroom were clean. There is a restaurant belonging to the hotel where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a bar. We had a nice dinner there. The price is reasonable for DC area and there isn't much better location for sightseeing. It might not be considered five star but it's comfortable and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I liked the large corner double queen room, 7 floor I believe, it was comfortable and very bright with windows on two sides. Also the staff at the desk was very friendly and helpful. Also close to lots of good eating options and several metro stations. Excellent value!. While a bit outdated, the hotel was well run, clean and comfortable. The location is the best. We walked to most sites and used a very good (and close) public transportation for some others. We were booked for 2 days, we had a family emergency on the first night, they were very understanding,and refunded our second day . We really appreciate that.Very close to the sights in dc. There were cleaning ladies knocking to our door every morning when we were still inside, once they woke us up before 9am, and sometimes they even came in. This was not too pleasant. We had a view on a small courtyard with noisy machines and bad smells, so we couldn't really open the window. The hotel is about 100 years old and probably hasn't been redecorated in 50 years, but it was clean and quiet! Could have used a couple of extra pillows for comfort!. My only disappointment was that the front desk didn't have any toothpaste available for guests. A minor offense. The bathroom room was very small. The room was dated and pokey with a large metal pipe running from floor to ceiling. Had to keep the curtains closed as the room was surrounded by other buildings and the noise from the a/c units of those buildings were reminiscent of being on an old Boeing aircraft. The too-soft bed in the room where we spent our first night. The room was very old. Bed spring was too soft. I didn't mind but can imagine some might be put off by the buildings age and the tiny rooms. The rooms could do with some modernization but it was still a great place to shower, sleep and relax a little. The size of the bathroom. The door barely cleared the toilet. There was no place in bathroom to put toiletries. The wall under the sink was filthy. The air-conditioning was too cold for us. Could use a little remodeling, or alot. But it was clean and that is what mattered!. Nothing bad to say. There was no way to plug in coffee maker except to put it on the floor. It would have been nice to have some counter space in the bathroom. Parking garage was misleadingly farther than expected. Very small bathroom. No shampoo. Borrowed a hairdryer from the front desk. not enough accessible outlets in the room. Had to boil the kettle on the floor for the cord to reach. Room was a bit small (not a big deal, knew it would be) and dark as the window opened onto a wall. Staff not necessarily that friendly. I felt I had to overextend kindness in order to be recognized. there was nothing that I did not like. Hotel looking a bit tired. Quality of buffet breakfast could be improved. Old TV. the carpet needs a clean. There wasn't anything we did not like. Hotel is old and a bit tired but very good value for money. Very old. Needs a remodel. I would like an option of smaller and less burger based meals for older people. it's aging somewhat gracefully. it is what it is. Staff in Harriet's restaurant miserable to the point I had to tell the manager. Decor dated but clean. Not for romance or luxury.
