Beautiful hotel; I love the dark wood and elegant light fixtures. The room was spacious and attractive with a great view. The bed was so comfortable - I haven't slept so well in a long time. We also enjoyed the beautiful lounge and the gym. For an affordable NYC hotel, this one is the best value for money I have found. Bed was comfortable and the room was large enough to move around in. The location is close to shops and restaurants. Will definitely stay there again.

The Excelsior is by far our favorite. Staff is friendly and accommodating, the rooms are clean and well laid-out, and the location can't be beat. A+. the hotel was very good. We were in for a wedding and there was plenty to do during the off times at the hotel. We had a great weekend & the hotel worked with us around the snow during our stay. Location to our destination (American Museum of Natural History), surroundings were safe, street parking available, room like a suite was roomy for stay with a child. Simply the nicest hotel un NY. Old world, it may be the last hotel that feels like the Upper West Side that is all too quickly disappearing. It was a really beautiful hotel. The rooms were spacious and the views were breathtaking. The staff was kind and helpful. The Excelsior is our favorite UWS hotel. The service and staff are great. It's always our first choice in the area. Very clean, beautiful hotel. Extra charges for wifi, refrigerator, and the computer center. These should have been included in the room rate, which was quite high. In room wifi was not free (but was not too expensive and was vey good, fast connection when bought). No refrigerator. Nothing!. The front desk staff could smile a bit more... and the restaurant on 2nd floor could be a bit more accommodating. (My husband wanted the buffet and I wanted coffee. The waiter didn't want me to go in because I would have access to the buffet - which I wan't eating!). no gift shop. Booked too late and had to pay a high price. Eating area small - attached bar/restaurant had limited availability (would not serve food between 3PM and 5PM). Small, somewhat scratchy bath towels. Limited TV channels and no HD TF capability- analog only. Room 1504 had a slow running drain in the bathtub. Luke warm water in shower the last day, noise from adjoining bathroom when they showered...woke us up, , lack of refrigerator. really great if you get a view looking south over the museum. otherwise you're looking into someone else's window and they into yours. or a wall. i stayed here exactly a month earlier and got a better room at a lower price and two complimentary breakfast meals. this time it was one third higher, a lesser room, an no breakfasts. at least comp the breakfast and acknowledge returning patrons. No tea/coffee facilities in room. Breakfast assortment/price not worth the price. Towels not soft One ply toilet paper. Tub didn't drain. You should have a place for a continental breakfast. Not everyone wants a buffet. Staff a little unhelpful. No fridge, kettle etc. in room. If you have a room facing the road/park you can hear the road traffic which makes it noisy. We had to move twice, our first room's a/c was broken, they moved us again but the next room was leaking from the ceiling above! Also, staff at front desk was hit or miss depending on who was on. I stopped to ask their assistance for finding a notary for a lease agreement and the front desk woman was very rude and dismissive. The concierge did however help me locate a place to have that done on a Saturday morning.
