Rooms were spacious and beds were comfortable. Staff were helpful. Lovely outlook over banyan trees and sweet night twitterings emanated from the birds nesting in the banyans as we slept. Great location for Volcanoes National Park and Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls. We did all 3 in one day. Beautiful walk in the gardens opposite the hotel. "Ken's" for breakfast was a 3minute drive away and was sensational. "Pesto"restaurant was a 5 min drive away and was divine.
all reviews » The hotel doesn't get very good reviews so we were a little skeptical about staying here. We were surprised to find the hotel clean, comfortable, in a great location (wished we had booked for 2 days instead of 1),staff was very friendly and the renovations were beautiful. Breakfast buffet was very well done. Free parking was a bonus!. Location giving good view of coast and mountains. Was also great for July 4th fireworks. Parking was free. They now give free wireless internet in the lobby area. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful refurbished room on 6th floor with wonderful views of mountains. Excellent restaurant. Very friendly staff. Fantastic views and park right beside hotel 4 nice walk! Staff very helpful n room was very spacious!. Updated rooms, best fish n chips i had in Hawaii!, consierge A+. The hotel has recently been upgraded. Excellent job!. I loved the view from our room. Spectacular. if you go to Hilo, here is the best choice. Good location, close to major attractions. Location of hotel, scenic views. 1.The view from our 2nd room and from the reception area out towards the bay. 2.Reception listening to our concerns about the room first allocated to us, and then arranging another room. Once refurbished and if the dining room menu and the quality of the food improves, we would recommend the hotel. Outlook was very nice and room was lovely (second room). Staff was friendly, location was great. "Reuben's" Mexican restaurant was appalling. AVOID! Go to "Pesto" which is next door. Superb! We would have liked a mini fridge in the room. Only negative was the ice and soda machines hadn't been installed and I had to go to the 6th floor for ice. Obviously not a big problem. No free internet in room. Rooms and hallways need continuous upgrading....shows its age. Hotel restaurant has great service but food selection is limited (especially for fish). Food taste could be improved. Not there long enough!. Airconditioning smelled stale ( my only negative). 1.The 1st room allocated to us was adjacent to the the dining room roof. As the roof was black, it radiated an enormous amount of heat back into our room. This room had no balcony or windows to open. It was most depressing looking out over the expanse of black ??. 2. The dining room itself and the menu was outdated and poorly cooked. The chef and management could learn much from the casual local restaurant called Pesto (Hilo) and from the breakfasts at the Pakalana Inn (Hilo). No fridge in the room. never heard of a room without a fridge (cannot keep medications cool) Said we could hire one for $10 day. They were replacing carpets in rooms above us so had hammering and drills etc we could not hear ourselves think. They did move us to another floor which had been renovated and it was lovely and it had a fridge (wow). Hotel is showing its age and could use a spruce up. Internet was expensive and if you opted for free internet it was awful. Rating is NOT accurate. This IS NOT a three star hotel!.
