The hotel was beautiful, the setting lovely. There was a wedding taking place but we were warned. However, it would have been good if we could have eaten something at the hotel. Maybe ordered takeaway if nothing else! The staff were extremely pleasant, polite and helpful (especially Russell who appeared to be on duty throughout our stay!) The room was very clean. We could not hear the wedding which we had been assured of. Also the rooms were not too hot as in other hotels we have stayed in.
all reviews » The room we stayed in was a gold room, clearly refurbished to a high standard. Luxurious room with a view out over the gardens and down to the sea. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Ideally placed for a five minute walk down into the harbour where there is a range of bars and clubs. There is a slight hill walk down and back up to the hotel but we didnt find it that bad although it could be for the less agile. All in all a fantastic stay and we will definitely stay again. Loved the pools - outdoor pool heated, also spa. Indoor pools in a very hot room so didn't try them. Giant outdoor Connect 4 game great. Breakfast was a buffet soaked in oil. Entertainment was for old people only, of which there were plenty! Wifi only in lounge which was a pain. Staff didn't apologise at all when we were given lemonade with no syrup ie soda, just sorted it out whilst leaving me waiting at the bar for ages. We were lucky enough to have the bridal room suite which had a four poster bed and very nicely decorated. The views from the huge bay windows were lovely. The bathroom was nicely appointed with views over the garden & pool. The evening meal was great value for money 3 courses for £15 the breakfast was even better. Very friendly family run hotel. First class service from all staff. Spotlessly clean and an excellent location. Superb evening meal and a great variety of food which would suit anyone. David, the Hotel Manager was very attentive as was the Hotel owner Brett. Both of whom were keen to ensure guests had the best possible stay. We shall most certainly return. The room was a good size (LH1) for two singles & the water /shower was hot at all times.Breakfast was good & very "Home from Home."Staff were helpful & friendly & even although a Wedding took place during our stay it did not interfere in any way with our stay .Indoor pool very small but warm & accessible. Almost everything about this hotel was excellent.we actually stayed in a appartment annexed to the hotel, but enjoyed all the facilities of the hotel.the hotel does the little things well, that are sometimes overlooked by other establishments, but at no extra cost, thus creating a home from home experience. An excellent hotel. We have stayed many times in Torquay but never before at this hotel. Now we have we will certainly stay again. This is how hotels should be run - friendly, super efficient staff, great food, great decor, lovely facilities- what more could you want. We had a apartment at the back street of the hotel for one night, very nice, clean, very comfortable. Wonderful jacuzzi. Town attractions 5 min by walk. Guitar player in the lobby in the evening was a good entertainment. Loud (party) guests are wrong at this place. Hotel is family run by brett and his wife and they take great effort to ensure that everything is satisfactory within the hotel ,with a very hands on approach . staff have the same approach . hotel is very well decorated throughout ,and great for a relaxing time. My eldest son and I came to visit my daughter and grandchildren for the weekend, just wished we could have stayed longer and enjoy your fabulous facilities!!. Everything, the staff were really friendly and helpful, our room was lovely with everything we needed and had sea views. We went to relax and we certainly managed to do this. The food in the hotel was excellent and staff couldn't do enough for us. Very welcoming, friendly staff. Comfortable stay, excellent dinner and breakfast. Entertainment was good.Would have liked to stay longer as it was a business trip. Will definately be returning for a longer stay. Excellent value for money. Nicely restored building. Very large rooms and nice seating area as well as a big garden with pool. There is entertainment and a movie shown every evening. Location up on a hill but within walking distance to harbour area and beach. The staff were realy friendly and helpfull. Steep walk up to hotel but only cost £3-4 for taxi. Otherwise see comments above. The only thing that could be improved but didn't spoil our stay was the sofa bed in our room which our daughter slept on was a little uncomfortable. There was absolutely nothing we did not like. No specified disabled parking. we filled out a hotel questionaire, and made a couple of minor suggestions relating to improving guest stays at the appartment, and discussed this with reception with a satisfactory outcome. Nothing to note. Hotel is up a very steep hill ,but a taxi to town only costs about £4. The steep hill up to the hotel entrance from the car park but we knew about it and managed ok. Would have liked to stay longer to be able to explore Torquay. Certainly no complaints about the hotel, it was excellent. Guests are all rather elderly, so that as a young person you feel a bit out of place. Nothing not to like. Rather uncomfortable bed, and poor lighting (dark shades on bedside lamps). None. Whilst standard room was nicely refurbished and very clean only window opened directly onto fire escape which meant we were reluctant to leave it open at night (although we could have done with the ventilation). Steep walk up hill from seafront/town centre. My wife thought the menu could have been more varied. Piano player on first night. Fully booked so we could only stay one night. Quite a steep hill back from harbour. No WiFi in room, only in reception areas. Rather watered-down soap/shampoo in bathroom dispensers. felt some members of staff were overstretched and were not always available. Front desk left unmanned occasionally and the same with the bar so ended up eating out one night as couldn't find anyone to help. Not suitable for those who have problems with walking. we are so sorry but there is nothing to complain about. Never saw any option on the breakfast menu for people that have special dietry requirements eg diabetic food,gluten intollerence food. A small fridge in the room would have been a good idea. nothing. Bedroom was nicely appointed, but a little small. Bar prices were very high. The hotel was further from the beach than expected. Location of our room was abov the kitchen so was a little noicy early morning. Radiator in room was Luke warm ,however we were provided with a heater,also tried to take a shower at 10pm and again the shower was only tepid,this was in room 37. Nothing, very minor maintenance issues ie sink plug detached from chain. The weather was very cold and the radiator in my room (41) wasn't powerful enough to heat it to a satisfactory temperature. It was warmer in the corridor outside my room and in other public places. The lounge areas were comfortable but the screeching noise from the sound system was irritating. Turn it off - it's not necessary!. No where to shower after using pool. Changing rooms separate from the pool so have to walk along public hallway in swimming gear and towel!!. Hill back to hotel!. Nothing. Walk back from town after a few pints and dinner bit of a challenge. Quite a steep climb from the harbour area right up to front door of hotel.When booking check size of standard double room .Room 2 bit small . Twin beds on first night not comfortable. As soon as we mentioned the problem, the beds were changed and were then very comfortable. Just a glitch.
