The location of the hotel was convenient to where I had to be the next day for a conference. I loved the site - by the river with wonderful views (especially at night), The hotel building was lovely - very attractive/welcoming exterior, wonderful interior design - very different and homely at the same time. All staff I met were polite, helpful and seemed focussed on making the whole stay experience one to remember. My room on the 7th floor was wonderful - beautifully and thoughtfully furnishe.
all reviews » Every hotel has it's own personality but share a common set of standards and values... all very high. I like the wine list... Manchester had a special wine list which I would have liked to see in Newcastle. Young but not 'trendy'. The staff seem happy to be there!. Have stayed many times in this hotel, staff are always helpful, particular recommendation for the lady from chicago whos mame I did not take but excellent people skills, efficient and mae you feel you were not just another number even though the hotel was busy. Absolutely loved the very large room 606.. Fantastic large bed..and the chaise long to relax on to read...bathroom was beautifully set out with hot towels and robes provided. Ironically we were given the exact same room we stayed in 3 was previous... Almost everything! Room was super with a great view of the tilting bridge; continental breakfast was delicious with a huge selection; bed was very comfortable and little touches (fresh milk delivered overnight for morning cuppa) were outstanding. The Tyne view rooms ( extra charge) are worth the extra but tend to be very noisy...Quayside is a noisy area...all night long with rowdy behaviour well into the early hours of the morning..ask for a high room -this can not be guaranteed but its worth asking. We were unlucky, but it wont prevent us staying again...perhaps next time we will be luckier. DARK !! Interior lighting is poor, rendering areas so dark in places you cannot see if it's in good repair or not. Unfortunately had a room at the back, nasty view of the car park. Had to ask to move rooms as the first room we had was right above the bar, music was loud and could hear it through the floor. For the money we paid for a superior room thought this was poor. Not applicable. I have never been a fan of the Malmaison Decor in the public places, reception, restaurant etc. I find it all too dark and sombre and the purple of the corridors was intimidating, otherwise an excellent hotel. The furniture and fittings look a little worn and need updating. The bar prices are high for a three star hotel. Watch for service charge being added to the final bill. Given a room right beside the lifts when the hotel was not busy. Sorted it out for me straightaway and without fuss so no real complaint. My finance ordered some additional items for breakfast and was charged for another full breakfast. Most places normally serve a buffet so there is no charge for addional items. I would of appreciated if someone had told me that the food/drink in the room was not free. I feel it should be as it was quite an expensive night as it was. Couldn't stay longer. Drinks rather expensive,. Nothing. The lighting could be brighter in the rooms for women to apply their make-up. Nothing. We thought the decor throughout hotel starting to look bit dated. Room was cold and with being a regular sole traveller I struggled to order room service as the menu was a bit limited and did not feel the food I purchased was value for money. too dark in reception and floor hallways; couldn't get close to mirror in bathroom due to oversized sink. would like to have been informed of car park location and fee's prior to stay. the corridors are a scary shade of purple & very dark. Made me feel uneasy as if visiting the London Dungeons. There was no instant coffee in the rooms only ground cofee. Not enough milk cartons in room. drinks in hotel bar are over-priced. It did seem to have lots of business people.The mood lighting is great around the hotel but in the rooms especially the bathroom it is very difficult to see, a small round bathroom mirror attached to the wall that pulls out with a light would be great, if people wear glasses it is hard to see without extra light especially to put make up on. Décor very dark especially in hall ways dark purple a bit depressive. Not enough sky programmes eg sky 1 and Atlantic and movies. We didn't stay long enough!. Breakfast is very over priced for what you get. Too Dark (Reception and Corridors). Nothing !. No pool. The bathroom was small. Not having a mirror with a bright light . Difficulty putting contacts in .
