We were given a great welcome by a delightful Spanish employee and as we were keen to see the Tour of Britain cycle race stage finish in Gateshead he allocated us a room with a view - we were very grateful.The dining room staff at breakfast set a high standard of service. We would certainly book at this hotel again. Very nice view and location, excellent service and clean hotel and recently refurnished.

There was a night club somewhere below and the music thumped out until the early hours. I was surprised how clearly it could be heard together with the voices of the groups of youths enjoying themselves. I would not recommend a stay at the weekend if you aren't planning a late night yourself. It may be different in a different part of the hotel.The sign above the bath, advised people could get a slip mat from reception, there was actually a slip mat above the bath. On entering the bath for a shower ( over the bath) I turned and slipped backwards out of the bath and hit my head off a stone floor and my back. The signage needs to be changed to ''the bath is prone to being slippy, please use the bath mat provided''. If guests do not want a full breakfast, there was no alternative available.staff service - trying to get drinks in hotel bar was difficult and member of staff who eventually served us had BO. Increased rate due to season.On confirming my booking the day before arrival, there was no record of it, and it took some time and inconvenience to sort out, with me having to send them copies of the confirmation, and also credit card details to confirm payment. After all this, there was still confusion when checking out, that the 2nd room had not been paid for. Restaurant ambience is awful and very noisy. The menu has extremely limited choice and the food bland and poorly prepared. The pretence is there but the quality is lacking. The bar is a rip-off. Advice, dine out if you can.A very noisy dining and reception area. Constantly in excess of comfort levels. Limited food choice and not value for money. Making a point with some staff difficult due to poor English language skills. I asked for the mattress protector to be changed as it was stained >thiswas not done even at the second time of asking. Guest room rate high. Bed cover too short to cover both of us in the cold night.
