We had a perfect stay at the Apex International Hotel. Our room was fantastic with excellent views of the castle and was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and recommended some great restaurants for us. We had a brilliant time in Edinburgh and the hotel was the icing on the cake. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again myself. Everthing but most of all it catered for non smokers and had abeautiful garden where you could smoke and not have to stand outside in the street.

Had it been open, I would have liked to have dinner in the hotel. Parking. I felt the prices were a bit high, but that would be a common complaint of mine. Far too warm - no air-conditioning.check in was a little disorganised. The only thing that i would comment on was that the window in our room was a bit tempermental and it was very warm!!. meals expensive. Noise from street (road works outwith control of staff) but also noise from carpark area as large metal trolleys being trundled by. I raised with the front staff that the bill had been pushed under my door (a wooden floor) at 5 a.m. by the night porter, waking me up . It sounded exactly like a rat or mouse scrabbling through my papers. I am normally a sound sleeper. They accepted this and said they would make a note to ask the porter to deliver later. Dinner on Saturday evening was extremely slow to arrive, although staff were charming in their 'covering up'. Food was no better than 'average'. A continental breakfast could be included in the room rate. I suspect a lot of guests seek neighbouring eateries for breakfast.Hotel is in a busy 'night life' area might be worth mentioning that it's a noisy area after midnight!. Bathrooms modern and clean but no attention to finishing detailseg,tiling /grouting missing.the glass door within the bathroom was missing. The policy of not allowing hotel guests to invite a visitor into the hotel at night. As mature women we were going to visit the residents bar with friends for a couple of drinks. We found this policy offensive due to it's suggestion of moral judgement and an invasion of privacy.The corridors and the room were too hot. The bedrooms were very warm, no airconditioning.car parking we stuggled to get out as we jammed in. having two twin beds was no use would have prefered a sofa instead of an extra bed.Security staff were not very friendly to some members of the party on trying to get back into the hotel at the end of the night. Second time we've stayed at the Apex. Stayed at the Apex City last time, offered far nicer, cleaner rooms. For £167, we expected the Superior room to offer more comfort and extra's than it did. I'm not a greedy person, nor usually a complainer, but a mini pack of Pringles and a tiny packet of jelly beans hardly counts as chocolates and snacks, does it? The room did offer a spectacular view though!!. the room was shabby and needed a makeover. bed sheets were quite rough and starchy!. Size of room was smaller than expected after reviewing website.

All our rooms have limited edition artwork pictures on the walls as well as a wide screen TV and CD/DVD player as standard. There is a selection of DVDs to rent if you forget to bring your own. There is also tea/coffee making facilities, with ground coffee and selected teas, as well as an iron and ironing board in every room. Bathrooms are spacious with power showers and specially blended Apex toiletries.

For those who have to work, a purpose built and ergonomically designed desk and chair make sure that your are comfortable while you work.

Travelling information

From the Airport:
There are a number of options to arrive in Edinburgh from the Airport either by taxi, by Airport Link double decked bus to the city center or by Airport Shuttle bus which will stop at the hotel.

From Waverley Station:
Waverley station sits below Princes Street on the opposite side of the castle from the Grassmarket. It is a 10 minute walk to the hotel, however with the climb over a hill we would suggest catching a taxi from any of the taxi ranks within or around the station.

By Car:
- The simplest way to find the hotel is to head towards Princes Street, Edinburgh’s main shopping street. Once at the west end of Princes Street near House of Frasers Department store turn south into Lothian Road.
- Once on Lothian Road take the 1st left turn onto King Stable Road.
- Follow this road straight along and you will arrive in the Grassmarket, where the Apex International will be on the right hand side of the road.
