Hotel was very central and easy to get to the tourist spots. close 2 pubs. Proximity to the Royal Mile and castle area. The room was clean, plumbing worked and shower was modern. Heat in the room was fine. I had a restful sleep.Bed was comfortable. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay again at the Grassmarket for the price and location. Friendly, helpful staff. Room facilities were excellent. In prime location but inside hotel was very quiet.Excellent laundry.Able to leave luggage untill going home in the evening.

Location, comfort, cleanliness. it was fine except for the loud music from the bar next door at night, and the v. loud (vibrating!) fan in the bathroom that took forever to turn itself off. But then it was a budget hotel, and otherwise, everything was fine. Friendly staff, etc.very easy to reach all of central Edinburgh. Breakfast was great and staff in breakfast room very efficient. No lift from the 1st to the 2nd floor, which would be hard for an older person with physical limitations to maneuver. My wife and myself found the room very good, but felt that two chairsand a small coffee table would improve it immensely as there was enoughroom for both..duvets are too small - not wide enough or long enough, tv had no remote control. The rooms were quite small, at night there was a lot of noise so i dont think it would suit a family but as we were a young couple it didnt really bother us! also we were woken up to building work going on outside but im sure this will be finished soon! it didnt put us out to much!. Room was hidden in a maze of corridors/ Stairs. There were noisy roadworks outside hotel which started at 8o'clock in the morning. Neither were too bad and did not affect quality of stay greatly. It did not worry me but the TV needs attention since the reception was very poor. This is not a real complaint because many hotel TVs (in my experience) have the same problem.Hallways were narrow and dark. Bad TV reception. No chain on the wash basin and an untidy burn mark on the carpet gave a 'tacky' look.Wifi should be located in more convenient and conducive places for work - the pub was not a good place to work. Also, all rooms should be accessible by lifts since most of us are laden with luggage and are usually tired from dragging them uphill in Edinburgh. Although our room was excellent I felt first impression of the hotel wa a bit off puting as the door had a crack in the glass the reception area was rather shabby behind the receptionist it looked like a bit of a dumping ground and the carpets in the corriders looked raher dirty and in need of a good clean,after saying this we were very pleased to find the room excellent clean and comfortable. Noisy on weekend nights due to bars close by. the wifi internet connection was only to the ground floor and not to the room as it been advertised. Only available WIFI in the Lounge or PUB, what a killer !. Noisy; drunken rowdy guests in next room, no milk for breakfast tea!. There was no coffee in the room only tea. It would have been nice to have a shower cap in the bathroom. The TV made a loud buzzing noise. Very noisy room due to building work outside. The staff was rude and were unavailable when I needed to check out. The hotel is also next to a pub, which is open and loud until quite late. The songs that was playing loudly late of the night, outside ofthe hotel.Electric wall socket in the room for for kettle was faulty and theextractor fan in the bathromm was very noisy. Stair carpets were stained and gruby. Lighting in room was very poor. Fan in bathroom kept on going for 20 mins after light swiched off what a waste of power !. The room heater was not working and no-one available to repair it. mattress. There is no lift to 3rd floor. even without luggage, it is tough. The helpfulness of the reception staff was very variable. One personwas very cool while the others could not have been more kind, welcomingand helpful.Fine for the odd few nights but in need of a refurbishment as decour and fittings all a bit tatty. When I initially arrived the hotel receptionist was on the phone and didnot even greet me with a nod - I ended up leaving and coming back later. could have done with a make over. lots of little problems. Spouce couldn't have shower, due to fact it leaked when I was having shower, leaked down into reception. No parking. A bit old furniture, TV control did not work.No easy access to the room.The same room would cost 60-70 euros in most european cities.
