Large homelike lounge for family get together. The food. Friendly atmosphere, warm welcome, comfortable room.Excellant service, Lovely rooms. The location was perfect, the staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly. We were lucky enough to be given a huge room at the top of the hotel which had fabulous views, a dining table and enough tea to sink a navy. I'd defiantly recommend this hotel to others.all reviews »

This was my second time staying at the Shaftesbury, and on both occasions I have found it comfortable, pleasant and quiet. It is very handy for the City Centre. Last year my room and stay were excellent, and this encouraged me to book again this year. The food, except for breakfast which had very limited choices, was very good. The hotel restaurants, especially the chinese had excellent food.Nice breakfast, close to town. the staff were superb. central to Dundee. Being close to the centre. Being asked to finish at 12pm and no more drinks allowed for residents. It was a bit chilly in the mornings as I believe the heating goes on around 8-9oclock, but the standalone oil heater warmed that up quickly enough.Nothing that was the hotel's fault. It was a bit far from where I was working but not so far away as to rule out my using the hotel again. Shower didn't work very well. Breakfast was very good and not a full scottish as stated. The price of eating in the hotel. Yuk a carpet in the bathroom and no shower only a hand held over bath. Some updating to the bathroom is due. Good choice of meal in Chinese or European restaurant.Unbelieavably, for a hotel in Dundee they did not have any marmalade. Dundee is the place where maramalade was invented. Shower and combine bath, the shower fitting was at half therequired height. breakfast not the greatest. only stayed 1 night and the only choice of food was chinese. as I was a lone traveller I felt I could not go out to find an alternative, but food was good and plentiful.The only thing was the heating! I felt very cold and it got worse when the heating went off at night. The duvet was very thin and didnt keep you warm. could mabey have heating on a bit more as we all found our rooms cold.rooms are too small coz of furniture. the bar closed at 10. no fryed bread at breakfast, i think more should have been given on dinning in on the english side of the meals, we read the info on the notice board,. perhapes more should be said to customers when they arrive at the hotel.please take this as an observation. it was a bit homely. The room I had this time was not as good as last year, even though I had booked an 'executive' single. The main flaw was a shower which was impossible to get to the right temperature of water as the taps were too loose and I had to use the bath instead. I tried to complain about this but the receptionist's English was not good and she couldn't understand what I was asking about. The internet connection on the wireless was frequently interrupted. This is not conducive to doing serious work. Everything shuts down at about 10 pm which is very inconvenient. My train was arriving very early in the morning and I called ahead to ensure that my room would be ready even if I had to pay extra. I arrived only to find that despite assurances it was not ready.It was cold at the hotel when there during the day. i felt that the bathroom needed a hugh upgrade although it says it has a shower its one of those fiddly ones joined to the the bath taps. also no shower curtain and carpet on the floor instead of tiles!. I found it difficult to sleep due to a constant droning noise which may have been due to a boiler or similar near the room. They advertise fast internet service in all the bedrooms, there was noconnection to the internet available.

Each of The Shaftesbury's bedrooms is different, but each is equipped with every convenience expected of a modern hotel, including an hospitality tray. Some rooms have a bath, other have a shower and some have both - please state your preference at time of booking (not guaranteed). We have furnished our rooms with a tasteful mixture of modern and antique styles. All rooms are good-sized, and still have the original sash & case windows! Each is decorated in a style that suits the individual room. The less able visitor will find rooms that are suitable for their needs.
Travelling information
Form Glasgow, Edinburgh & Inverness take the road to Perth, join the a90 Perth to Dundee. Approaching roundabout Swallow Hotel (located left) turn right into the City Centre and Airport road. (sign posted Airport & City Centre). You are now on Riverside Avenue. Look out for the big brown sign for University, Botanic Garden and Shaftesbury Hotel is listed at the bottom of the sign, follow signs all the way into Perth Road until the last Shaftesbury Hotel sign (at right side of the road) points you left into Hyndford Street.
From Aberdeen: Approaching Dundee from the north and east, follow signs for Tay Road Bridge keeping river on the left. Once at bridge follow signs for Perth and Dundee Airport along Riverside Drive, at Railway Bridge take a sharp right follow road round keeping park on left drive along Magdelen Yard Road until you reach Windsor Street. Turn right up to top of Windsor Street turn left into Perth Road then turn first right into Hyndford Street.
