The views out of our window were great. The simplicity of the room were fantastic. The breakfast was perfect. The dinner is an excellent value for the area. If you don't get the dinner you will likely pay well over 100 francs for a family of four! The mountains are a wonderful place to hike. The trails are clearly marked with distances. The history and the preserved buildings in the town are very interesting.
all reviews » The hostel is a bit out of the center of Zermatt, although this isn't a huge problem since the town is pretty small. Only four beds in the room I was staying in, which was nice, and lockers for backpacks that operate with a 2CHF deposit. Beds were reasonably comfortable and each has its own reading light. Our visit was primarily to attend a family wedding. The hostel staff were helpful, for example we arrived late and they left us out dinner to microwave. Very clean, efficient and friendly. I observed it to be good for groups of adults and children. Lashings of hot water!. very clean and welcoming. Lots of hot water always available for showers after skiing and plenty warm enough. Plenty of healthy, filling food both breakfast and tea. Good time for tea - 6 - 7:30 so not too late to wait when you have finished skiing. Swiss Youth Hostels rarely disappoint, and this is no exception. Friendly welcome, ski storage available, big lockers available, good breakfast and also dinner included. Excellent, it has a very good price comparing with the rest of the city. The service is really friendly, and the meals are quite good. Breakfast was included and was really good, high quality! Zermatt is quite expensive and although I have stayed in much nicer hostels, we think this was good value for money in Switzerland..!! The rooms need an update in liner & colour as it looks really old and worn - but a good hostel. We would stay again. We used quadruple room with shower room and it was pretty nice. Everything was clean and organized and breakfast was o.k too. It's about 15 min walk to Zermatt main station by walk, and 25 CHF by taxi(it's electronic car 'cause Zermatt has no gas cars). We could hear people down the hall snoring. The bunk beds are a great idea, but they were kind of rickety, so if the other person rolls over it shakes the whole bed. Fine for an adult, but not great for kids. Apparently June is the season for construction! Many roads were blocked, views were obstructed by cranes, and starting at 7am there was constant construction noise throughout the town. You can't check in until 4pm, and one of the showers made a huge puddle of water in the ladies' bathroom (which a staff member did clean up when I brought it to her attention). Not in the youth hostel's control but Zermatt itself is very expensive. Would be nice to get a choice of menu for main meal at tea time. No lift so quite a hike up 4 floors - but well rewarded with great views of the Matterhorn. Boot room didn't really dry the boots. Dinner is not vegetarian friendly, and there is no guest kitchen. As it is often the case in Switzerland, the reception is closed in the middle of the day. I was in a dorm on the upper floor. The heating was generally left way too high, it was very warm in the room. Also, I hit my head several times on the part of the ceiling that followed the diagonal of the roof. Nothing. common room not very conducive to randomly meeting people and hanging out- usually one of the perks of staying in a hostel. Private room was a bit small for a tall person. My husband is 6'1" and he found things a little tight. It was fine for me standing at 5'2". Daily membership fee. would have preferred chairs to stools in the room. the main course of dinner was variable but meal was filling and always soup and salad and dessert or fruit too. no wifi in the room. A little far from train station if you have big luggage. None. no wifi on third floor. The ski rental store I was directed to wasn't cheaper than others, on contrary. No elevator Far form train station. Pretty long walk to city center, but good exercise!. Towels were not included. Sheets were disgusting.. They are like a scratchy towel material. I slept on top of my blankets to avoid touching it. Nothing special. I saw some people had hard time finding this place first time, but it's not that complicated. There is stairs to go up so maybe it's not easy for people who carry heavy baggages to get there. Uphill - gets difficult when you have heavy luggage. Location is a bit far from the station. And it is harsh to bring along the luggages to climb up stairs outside the hostel. We need to pay extra fee if we are not the membership... The kitchen is not available for cooking by ourselves. After I booking, I found I had to pay extra 6 chf because I 'm not membership, and the wifi doesn't work in the room. 1. challenging to shower because same level of floor for toilet and shower. Water kept getting into the toilet area.....exteremely inconvenient. 2. room too small for 6 people. The location is too far away ... The staff who served dinner was poor attitude. Room rate no include dinner, have to pay extra if taken dinner. Staff order us to clean up our table and another one (other person didn't clean up after having breakfast). Location of hotel not easy to find.
