The staff in the Arcare building were very friendly and helpful. Room cleaning and maintenance were punctual and efficient. Front desk staff were very helpful. Restaurant was good and waiting staff friendly and attentive. Hotel bar was good for meeting and chatting with other guests with a very nice and friendly barman in charge. Rooms were not overly large, but the Matterhorn view more than compensated. A 5 minute walk to rent skis/sports shop, and another 5 minutes to the Sunneggabahn funicul.

It's relatively close to the train station. The rooms need some renovation, but they are ok in general. The breakfast is the good point. Well served and many options. Nothing - From the hotel point of view, it was one of the most (if not "the most") horrible experiences for us. Ski room is not accessible from inside the Arcare hotel building. Going back and forth by skibus is a bit inconvenient in Zermatt; but that's true for most hotels there. A little far out of town when walking to lift stations in ski boots! The steep approach drive was very icy with no attempt to clear it during my stay whereas most other hotels did attempt to maintain cleared access. The industrial scrambeled eggs. There was nothing that we di not like. Very modest breakfast. Location was a little far from the city center, but Zermatt is not large enough to make a difference. High prices (common to all Switzerland), too eager cleaning and washing of towels. The shower head was a little on the low side for comfort. I could not figure out how to make the shower turn on. The crane. Cleaning can be improuved: we find a sock from the last guest behind a desk. The staff didnt seem very friendly. I had to wait for like 10 mins to get an extra tea bag during my breakfast. That is too long especially for someone who cannot wait once he has started eating :-). Seb Coe could not walk to the train station in one minute, he would be lucky to do it in 10 with ski's and boots. To far away from the lifts. unable to check out as no staff on hand to do it! still dont have the bill extremely expensive ski lifts £75 for lift to b/horn. In our opinion, Best Western Alpen Resort is definitely not a 4 Star Hotel. The facilities are not upto standards and the staff is one of the rudest and impolite that we have ever come across (I say this with my experience of travelling in more than 40 countries across the world). In a nutshell : Avoid this hotel - Not at all worth the money they charge. Don't waste your money and energy on this hotel. I am sure there should be better options in Zermatt. Hotel is quite old. Location is also bad. When we went there, there was a construction in front of our room.
