Location (in relation to Airport), decor, the Aesthetics (it's a beautiful Hotel!) but ... Two things about the location: 1. It is less than a 10 min drive from Tambo. Great!!!, You can't beat that! 2. It's located in the 'ghetto'. Driving down Kempton Rd to get to the Hotel, I kept on feeling like I was in a bad movie, where someone gets charge r690 to stay in a shanty. The apt complexes were run down. People were on the streets, not homeless people just seemingly 'aimless' people. And it was .
all reviews » We were en route to Singapore and stopped over at the Aviator Hotel for the night. I was very impressed by the excellent Service provided and the extra mile staff went to when they transported my husband, my sick 3 year old and myself to hospital at 3am so my son could be nebulised. I was extremely grateful. we stopped over at the aviator on our return trip for a few hours so our family could freshen up and rest before our flight to Durban. I will definitely be using the Aviator hotel again. The hotel was really close to the airport and the hotel had a free shuttle bus. Stayed at the hotel at three different times of my trip because if its locationand ease. The shuttle bus is 24 hrs but make sure you organise a pick up if after midnight. I did this but unfortunately my flight was delayed and the driver left which left mr stranded. Carry their no. With you as they can quickly send someone to pick u up rather than cabbing. The free buffet breakfast was great!. We were surprised at how nice and efficient this hotel was as it was relatively inexpensive and we were only using it as a stopover. You could definitely spend a few days here. Has a outside swimming pool. The staff were efficient and friendly.The shuttle service was excellent and it was wonderful not having to pay extra for it. The room was a good size with very comfortable beds, private bathroom and tea/coffee facility. I wish we could have stayed for breakfast!. The staff was excellent and courteous. Our room was clean and comfortable and excellent value. On a par with a Travel Lodge and good to feel secure in Jo'burg. Could happily have stayed there for a week if our holiday based from there. However, the hotel itself was very safe and secure. The area the hotel is in is crap - but in great proximity to the airport and has good security - hence the surrounding area really doesn't matter - but you wouldn't go for a walk at night. The room setup is a bit quirky with light from bathroom waking up whole room if used at night due to huge internal window (can't see through but full light goes through). Dinner fairly expensive for quality -I had pork ribs... shower leaked - finishing's poorly done. It's a bit hard to find so make sure you have the correct gps coordinates/address or good map. Very Limited space in the rooms...the entire feel of the room coridoors was more like a prison...very dark rooms!!. It was easy to hear other guests during the day which was only challenging as we were trying to sleep. The floors and ceilings are so thin you can hear everything. You have to put up with the planes going over ahead but you do get used to it and part of being near the airport. Nothing. We had planned that the two rooms we booked were next to each other, but instead theey were in two completely different wings of the hotel which made things a bit difficult to communicate with the kids. An improvement could be made at the restaurant for the menu. Not enough choice. The fact that I only had a short stay over - I would have loved to lie next to the pool. It is a glass door into the bathroom so there is no privacy which may bother some guests. I went for dinner at the restaurant and the service were pathetic!!!! I waited and hour for a pizza?. The only thing an disappointed about was the safe, it wasn't working and checkout time should be about 2 as the check in. nothing. The colour of the walls :)...time to recoat?. 1. Cold room. It gets quite chilly at night. 2. Neighbourhood is close to the airport, but not very nice to visit. Breakfast choice could have been better. Because I moved into another room due tyo noise, I knew what was missing in the 2 nd room. The bed table, fridge and my washbasin was leaking water onto bathroom floor. nothing really. Not enough coffee satchets in room. Had to go get. some aircraft noise which is expected, but the noise is less at night as the air traffic decreases. The shower overflowed onto the floor leaving it very wet. You could hear the planes - but not so much from the room. Not as luxurious as it looks online.
