Situated in the Asakusa area, Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu has a history of 80 years. The accommodation boasts a view of the Tokyo Skytree from its Hinoki wood bath, a colorful breakfast and rice cooked in a rice cooking cauldron.
Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu is situated a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Subway Station, near Nakamise-dori Street and Senso-ji Temple. Asakusa Subway Station provides direct access to Ueno, Shibuya and Ginza areas, and also to the Narita and Haneda international airports.
Japanese-style rooms and Western single rooms are available. Each guest room comes equipped with air conditioning, a satellite TV, a refrigerator and an en suite bathroom. Hairdryers, yukata robes, tea sets and mineral water are provided.
On-site restaurant Ajidokoro Hozuki offers breakfast at an additional charge per person, which is served between 07:30 – 09:00.
There is a bath for each gender on site and both the female and male baths offer a view of Senso-ji Temple’s Five-storied Pagoda.

We had a 1 month trip around Japan :- Tokyo(Asakusa), Tokyo(Yokahama), a cruise, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka & back via Helsinki. Throughout Japan we were impressed by the politeness, friendliness & cleanliness & we are sure all hotels at all levels meet the same standards.
This was a traditional Ryokan & needed getting used to ! It was perfectly located right in the middle of the oldest suburb of Tokyo, close to a temple, market street & river. It is however a unique experienc. all reviews »
Hotel is a quiet and peaceful haven in a busy, interesting area, just
minutes away from many things to see and excellent traditional shopping.
Staff are helpful, although it will help if you can speak a little
Japanese. I have stayed in their tatami rooms before and this time
stayed in a single (western style) room which was spacious for a single.
Good to have free wifi, unlike many hotels. Tip - buy the koto cd at the
reception desk as a memento.
We can recommend this reykan to everybody. I strongly recommend it. Reykan placed in the quiet and famous place and you can travel convenient from this place. Service is on the high level. I really fall in love in this reykan and especially thanks to Tabito-san who helped us in everything. I will remember this reykan and Tabito-san with warm in my soul! Thank you very very much!.
Shigetsu was our first hotel in Japan and it started off our trip well.
The staff were lovely and helpful and the breakfasts superb. The baths
were great and the family room quite large compared to other places we
stayed. And Asakusa is a great location. Very enjoyable.

Loved staying in a traditional Japanese room with Tatami mats and
sleeping on a futon. Staff was so helpfull in finding restraunts and
understanding train or travel plans. Breakfast was good.
The location was right in the heart of the busy Asakusa shopping mall. A stones throw away from the temple. Plenty of excellent restaurants close by.
A most enjoyable 6 days in Tokyo.

Very friendly, particularly Miyaki and Watanabe (spelling?).... Breakfast was very good. Water heater was very handy. They held my luggage till 4 PM which was very nice.

It's a traditional japanese hotel. So you will get full experience
of sleeping on a futon and wearing a yukata.

We booked a double sized room but were put in a far smaller one. They did move us - but the room was still so small the two futons took up most of the space ! An interesting experience - once !.
I can't think of anything that wasn't fine with me! The single
room had no view but you'd expect that in many hotel rooms in
Tokyo anyway.

Room was nice but a little small. Needed more plugs to plug in my
computer, Phone, and Wi-fi hot spot. Needed more plugs or a power strip.

They need to ELIMINATE smoking in the lobby. Smokers can go outside or smoke in their rooms. 1 time, when I was using internet, a smoker was right behind which was highly irritating. But it only happened 1x when I was using internet in the lobby (thank goodness). Train stations have done it; when will hotels follow??.

The room is extra small. Because i'm asian I can still manage. To be
honest I don't know how a bigger person will fit in that such a
small room.
I had bedbugs in my room and was bitten many many times in the time that I stayed there. The front desk staff was very embarrassed and did refund me for half of my stay, but that doesn't change the 32 bites (and counting) that I received while there.
It is also annoying that you are required to leave the building between 10:30 and 3:00 while they clean. As it was raining, we wanted to come back and sit and have tea, but we weren't even allowed into the building.
