What people say
Beautiful atmosphere. Authentic traditional as opposed to modern renovation to look traditional, so don't expect top o' the range furnishings. Bonus wifi in our room because our room was over the lobby's free wifi.website says no internet avail but they now provide a laptop in a side room for free use and free wifi in the lobby. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Their english isnt that great but you can get your point across. Felt real special as they display your name on the board out the . all reviews »
The reception staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The Japanese style breakfast was delicious. The restaurant staff excellent. Location great for easy walking distance to sightseeing attractions restaurants and shopping including the morning market by the bridge. Japanese style Bath/Spa is excellent. Taking off our shoes and using hotel slippers everywhere you walk inside the hotel. Our two pieces of luggage were carried up to the 3rd floor for check-in and picked up for check-out.
We had Japanese breakfast at the hotel. It was very enjoyable and definitely value for money. The staff we in attendance to explain how to cook and what bits of condiments and sauces go with each course. Wish we had tried the Japanese dinner as well. While it is a modern building that is fitted out to imitate a real ryokan, it did have the same atmosphere and feel of a real ryokan inside the rooms and facilities. Just ignore the carpeted corridor. Close to station and city.
This old Japanese style hotel is a 5mins walk from main bus/train terminal station, close to everything. The hotel itself is very cozy, our room was very big and comfortable.
We had breakfast booked with our stay, that was so good. You got to choose between western style or Japanese style.(go for Japanese style!!) All the staff were really nice, very thoughtful ,they tried so hard to communicate with us in English. Please be more patient with them.
Location Location Location. Five mins walk from Takayama station. Ten
minutes walk to all other attractions. Very friendly staff (and they
speak English too!). Traditional Japanese hotel with yummy breakfast.
Got public bath inside the hotel (in addition to the private one in each
room) - I would be back there if I were to visit Takayama again!.
Excellent location as it was near to the bus and train station, making the ryokan a great base for travel around the region. The staff was very friendly and they welcomed their guests by writing their names at the entrance of the ryokan. Deco in the room was tasteful and the breakfast was delicious. It was a comfortable stay on the whole!.
I liked a lot the experience of sleeping in a Ryokan, and this one met all my expectatives, the breakfast was really good. The room was comfortable and really nice. Some minutes walking from the Train Station. I recommend this hotel-ryokan to everybody that would like to live this experience with a good price, in Takayama.
- The room was really roomy, with traditional appearance. I recommend to ask for futon mats, which are pretty comfortable.
- Good staff. We asked them for having good views if available and they provided us with them.
- Located near the bus and railway stations and next to the touristic interest area.
I liked garden and decoration in front of the hotel. The room was nice and clean. They also had public onsen but I didn't try it. For breakfast, I recommended japanese style because they served hobamiso which was so nice. The waitress was very kind and took a really good care of us.
The hotel staff made us feel at home and were very helpful in providing information for our tour. The Japanese breakfast we had daily was excellent and i just love their attention to detail. It is very close to the station and i will definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is great. It is not only
near the train and bus station, but close to the historic districts and
markets. The Japanese style room with western bed and private bath was
spacious and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.
A well run ryokan. Although the staff hardly speak English, they try their best to make their foreign guests comfortable.
Both breakfast and dinner are delicious. We had the famous Hida beef for all 3 nights of stay, and it was definitely better than Kobe beef!.
Experienced Japanese style accommodation. Love the Hida beef and shabu shabu dinner in the ryokan. Is worth the 4,400 yen paid per person. Japanese breakfast was more than substantial. Would not go with the western breakfast.
Close jr Takayama train station.Japanese style hotel with very clean
room, nice hot spring bath and delicious japanese breakfast. The
receiption and staff really provided very very good service.
- The in house onsen was really nice.
- The price was not very high compare with other ryokan.
- The room had nice setting. We got the feeling that we stayed in the real Japanese house.
Nice stay in this little hotel, quiet and warm. The best thing is it provides shuttle bus to surrounding area, I went to Shirgawago village with a round trip price for only $2000.
Location is perfect to visit the town, also close to train and Nohi bus station. Very clean well organized, Japanese breakfast is excellent, staff is very helpful and very nice.
Staff was kind to observe our request for western-style beds (2 futons) and low Japanese style chair for me at breakfast. Being from Hawaii we felt comfortable with the customs.
The hotel is close to Takayama station, room is quiet big and clean. The hotel has free wifi and the staff speack a little english. Don´t miss the hotel spring baths.
Our Japanese styled room was spacious, clean and pretty. The hotel is also conveniently located, close to the train and bus stations, as well as local attractions.
Everything was perfect during our stay there. Near to train station, shops, and the hotel itself was amazing. Really love the ambiance and the food there!.
I loved the breakfast served in a very traditional room and the fact that there was a pc in the lobby that could be used for free, USB portals included.
Staffs were very polite and helpful. Wifi was good in lobby and some part of hotel. Dinner was sophisticated and experience in japanese style.
Good position, clean and big room with two bed, bathroom. Near many famous restaurants and tourist spots. We enjoy our stay here.recommended.
Very good hotel in term of location, reasonable price, room and service mind... I will go back to this hotel again for my next trip.
Very nice ryokan, 15 minutes walk from the station. Excellent staff,
beautiful room and very good japanese breakfast. Perfect!.
The beds were quite comfortable and so were the little lounge chairs in the room. This is a very conveniently located inn.
Friendly staff, great location, excellent restaurant recommendation and a great experience in a lovely old town.
The size of the bedroom was big enough, including a beautiful terrace. There is a good relaxing ofuro.
Location ( close to the bus and train station and to the city center), lovely room and friendly staff.
Very nice hotel, like ryokan. Friendly staff, big rooms and a japanese breakfast included.
Staff friendly and helpfull
Public bath
Japanese breakfast
Location near the train station.
Location and staff were fabulous. Facilities marvellous. Great place to stay.
It's very comfortable. I like the decoration and hot bath that open 24 hrs.
Great breakfast, beautiful room, very nice traditional Japanese experience.
Good onsen.
Nice breakfast with hotpot.
Comfy beds.
Central location.
the spa was lovely and rooms were comfortable. wi fi was free.
The ryokan is so clean and the staffs are so polite.
The hotel setting and the breakfast is excellent!.
I really liked the staff and the "old" feeling.
Japanese style rooms close to station.
Big room, very clean and good food.
Foods and service.
food/ location.
Good location, just a 5min walk from the station. It was quiet and very clean. Good for getting an experience of a traditional Japanese inn. Very polite and helpful staff ( given their limited english ).Good atmosphere and very photogenic. Excellent food.
Easy acces to station (on foot about 10 min with luggage).
excellent breakfast (japanese). Onsen ok.
Location is within walking distance to train station.
The private onsen was a real treat !!!.
they charged us more than what letsbookhotel.com price was, so make sure you have a copy of your reservation printed in Japanese as well as English to show them. they were very apologetic and adjusted the price accordingly. Didn't eat any meals but food smelled divine, but seemed a bit over priced.
The gray colored carpet in our room is dated and was not cleaned. It needs to be replaced. Pillows are too hard. Management should consider offering guests softer pillows. No in-room Wi-fi connection. No small wash cloth for shower. Reception staff's English language is poor. There are many travelers that do not speak Japanese. So, the staff should consider learning more of the English language to communicate better with non speaking Japanese guests, especially the basics.
Staff were helpful but spoke little English. I was given the wrong direction and wasted an hour of our time. Best not to rely on the hotel staff for directions and use the Tourist information boot when you arrive. Its 3 mins from the hotel if you need to go back and ask for directions.
in fact there's smoking area in the lobby near the WIFI zone.
Nothing.
Wifi in the room was poor.
There were no curtains to hide the sun, but it was not a problem anyway, even you could wake up a bit earlier due to the light.
- The fridge was a bit noisy although it was separated from the sleeping room.
There are no clear signages to the male and female public baths. My wife was shocked to see a male guest in the female bath!.
Nothing to complain!.
WiFi only in the lobby.
Third floor climb was a challenge to our room, but all worth it when we arrived.
Anything to say.
The building is rather dated and it is not always spotlessly clean. The cold restroom was quite annoying, but it is not the only place I found in Japan with this problem.
A little problem in english communication but it was not a big problem.
Too early check out time at 10.00.
Only climbing the three flights of stairs with our bags to get the room.
Facilities are maybe a little old, but good maintained. I missed any young person within the staff, able for instance to communicate in English.
The place seems a bit past its glory days: some repainting of walls and maintenance in the public bath would help.
Nothing.
Slight fixtures and fittings need updating in communal areas.
no wifi in the room had to go to the lobby.
None.
Low beds and chairs were difficult for us, our knees are not what they used to be! There was no internet or wi-fi in rooms, just in the lobby area.
Not a real ryokan behaviour. More a hotel in ryokan format. No welcome ceremony. Beds were already made before the evening. A bit run down impression.
Very little English spoken by front desk people, but enough not to impact your stay, if you do not need anything special. Chairs in room are very low to the ground so not very comfortable for relaxing. Temperature of water in shower fluctuates to a dangerous degree.
Our rooms were on the 3rd floor (ground floor is 1st floor in
Japan). With our heavy suitcases that was a bit of a downer as there
was no elevator.
