The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about Kyoto. There is no elevator and we were on the 4th floor but the guy insisted on carrying our very heavy bags up the stairs until my partner couldn't stand it any longer and took one. The room was comfortable and clean and when we forgot keys they were brought promptly. When they got a taxi for us they came outside to make sure that the destination was clear and waved us off.
all reviews » I loved the public bath. But also that it was only optional so that we had a private bathroom as well. The staff could not do more for us. They helps us navigate the bus system, we could buy bus passes and rent bikes from them. And even though they had their own resultant, on the days our money was low and we bought meals from the 7/11 down the road they offered their microwave for us to use. The location is very good, 5 min from the nearest subway. The area around was also great, you can walk to most places from the hotel. It is possible to reserve a shuttle from the hotel to the airport at Osaka and it is not too expensive, 3500 yen. The staff was great. we even got breakfast at 5:00 am. We especially liked the location closed to many sites, and bus stops. The reception people all very knowledgable, polite, helpful. The western breakfast for about $9.00 was excellent. The place was clean but outdated.If we go to Kyoto again we will stay at the Travelers Inn. Very good location, right next to Heian shrine. They have a cafe/restaurant in the hotel, which is very convenient. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also they have vending machines with drinks, ramen noodles and a dispenser with hot water. (Compare: For the same price, we had a 4 star luxury hotel in Hiroshima, 200 meters from the Atomic Memorial Park.). No elevator. None. Pillows. Noise from conditioning(?) units outside the building and ventilation inside the room. Due to slightly chilly weather, it was quite cold in the Japanese style room. Also, uncomfortable pillows, but again - this was a Japanese style room, so could be only that. no elevator but that's not a big problem. Missing any sitting possibility to put on shoes by room Japanese style for the elderly tourist, age65. Thin Futon style beds were not thick enough to prevent a sore back meaning we had to double up on the futons. None. The windows have frosting, which is a bit of a shame because it would have been good to have a view from the 3rd floor. Stairs, no lift. No elevator, not so close to the public transport and not so many food close by. No elevator than is negative for me who stayed on 4th floor. No automated cleaning toilet. 4th floor without elevator. It has not some kind of things that you expect from a hotel, like good towels, soap, etc. but for the price is the service is excellent. Map of the surrounding area can be improved with more details in English. We miss some of the road sign/name during cycling. Very little. The rooms could have been a big larger. They dont have complete first aid box. However, the staff help us to show where is the nearest pharmacy. nothing to complain. small rooms. Carpet not in good condition. No lift. onsen is pretty small. No lift but personnel is very friendly and helpful even with luggages. No elevator. The hotel is old, modest and a bit expensive compared to the facilities provided. The subway station is far from the hotel but you can get a taxi with less than 1000 yen to and from the hotel. No elevators. Check in is 3PM and check out is 10AM. The beds could have been a bit more comfortable. The price is rather high for what you get (e.g. room on the 4th floor without elevator) ... The fact that my room went out to the back (away from the street) turned out to be less quiet than expected because there was a group of youths staying in the dormitory behind the hotel and the were slightly noisy, to put it mildly. I booked a non-smoke room but I could smell strong smoke all night. I turned on the air-conditioner, it stank the whole room up and I had to turn it off. It was very uncomfortable to stay in that room.
