M just back from a trip to Italy and had stayed 3 nights at Casa Santa Sofia. Biggest advantage and my reason for selecting this place was the location. Its at a walking distance from Metro station Cavour, which is the first stop after Termini on Blue line. So its very convenient to reach the hotel from Airport. A bus from Airport to termini and a Metro from Termini to Cavour and a small walk! All under 1.5 hours. Talking more about the Hotel, do clarify when you book it that you have booked th.
all reviews » Positives: Casa Santa Sophia is a delight! Joined to the convent, it is run by the Catechist Sisters of St Anne (there's mass every morning at 06:50, if you fancy joining them). Simply furnished, this is a very basic hotel, and not one for a "romantic weekend" perhaps, but a perfect crash-pad for friends having a break in Rome. I loved it - clean, quiet, spacious, friendly. Hearing the faint sound of the nun's choirs singing waft up the stairwell after breakfast brought a tear to my eye (beauti. The location was close to all the main historical sites with minutes walks to the Colosseum. There is a nice little water fountain in the front of the hotel entrance. There is a breakfast room by the reception. Breakfast is basic which will keep you going till lunch. There are many little take away shops to grap a pizza slice and a drink and also many restaurants for those who would like to sit down for a meal. Awesome location! 5-7 min from the hotel is Colosseum. We only walked in Rome with a 3.5 years old child. To Vatican you will need 1 hour. But streets are so fascinating that it is a pleasure to walk there. Very very friendly staff. Rooms are simple and clean. There is an air- conditioner, but you have to pay an extra 10€ per day. Negatives: Sound insulation is an issue as the floors are tiled, so other guests clattering around late night/ early morning can cause disturbance. 10am check-out is a little early!. So my advice - do not choose rooms which are facing the square :). Room didn't have airconditioning which was an inconvenience but not too bad given the temperature. There was no sign out the front saying Santa Sofia so I walked past it the first time (it said Santa Anna). nothing. The breakfast was very plain. Large but not so fresh bread rolls, stale pastries & very basic cereal. No freshly brewed coffee or fresh fruit was a big minus. There are however many places nearby to get good coffee & cheap panini. Nothing to dislike. I've had an inside room - complete silence - but I imagine that the ones facing the square can be a bit noise (yet it is a nice view). For me it wasn't a problem but if you can't sleep in a noisy place do not choose this hotel. There is a very nice fountain with lots of people around all day and night deinking & having fun. Thus there is noise. I like it because i can sleep next to a drum. Google Maps misled me - it's actually just off via dei Serpentei by the fountain just north of via Cavour. Look for the Cyrillic script over the door on the left. Noise (even if your windows are not to a square with fountain). Curtain in a shower should be longer or a tray deeper otherwise water is going to flow out. No tv in the room. The rooms overlook the square with cafes where people joy half night. The room was not very spacious, but for the time I spent there I guess it's fine. Wifi didn't really work from the 2nd floor up, only in common area. It could get noisy on the square in front of the hotel late at night, but I was informed of this on arrival and given the option of a room that didn't face the square so excellent customer service. A bit noisy for rooms fronting the piazza. To find an available room, you may need to book about 2-3 months before your stay :/. Small room and elevator, Aircon is added extra and 20€ per night. Nothing. Small room with no view at all. There is not tv in the room also no refrigerator.
