Although stark on the outside, the First Hotel Malpensa was very nice and modern inside. The restaurant was quite good and the complimentary breakfast buffet was wonderful. I was also amazed at how quiet the hotel was, considering how close we were to the airport. No outside noise filtered in at all. I would highly recommend this hotel to other travelers who are looking for a place to stay.

We were even able to leave a piece of luggage with them for a week between two of our stays. And lastly, we were travelling with a six month old baby, and they had already provided the cot.Really nice to leave some Lindt truffles in the room, makes you feel very welcome! It is very near to Terminal 1 and yet is in a quiet semi-residential area. There is an excellent reasonably priced restaurant right next door to the hotel. There is also a gas station very near by - great for filling up your rental car before you return it.The hotel mini bus was fast and efficient and made each journey to andfrom the airport really easy. Although we didn't have time to do anything, there is nothing in the area close to the hotel. ie, nothing within walking distance. Also, on both occassions, we had to leave to the airport before 6:30 am, which is when breakfast starts. It would have been nice though had there been a small table with muffins or something before heading off. Very minor - Perhaps leave a little milk to colour tea/coffee!. The restaurant is just so-so. located in a basement, but if you're staying there because you have an early flight out you're not looking for dining experiences. no dislikes. too hot in sleeping room. Restaurant service was borderline. The breakfast bar was unusable to us since we left before it opened. A breakfast bag would have been nice.Wait staff in restaurant was a little slow at breakfast, not horrible though. Birds singing at night. no eating facilities outside the hotel. and the price in the hotel restaurant very high and selection poor. I did not know I had to call the hotel from the airport to get a shuttle. Only the strange choice of wall decoration in the breakfast room, which appeared to be old aeroplane wings and fuselage segments.. The bed was too hard for my comfort.Breakfast buffet was very disappointing after being in Italy 2 wks. Dining room felt like an Am. cafeteria. Full scale airplane parts behind glass in DR were very disconcerting. There is a shuttle to the airport that definitely requires a reservation in advance (overnight is better...but a few hours at a minimum is good) and seems like it could be run more regularly to accomodate airport traffic.The breakfast was poor. All hot meal should be ordered foe additional payment, that is not so common. Hovewer the transfer (1 time from the airport to the hotel and another time from the airport to the hotel) was included I used the hotel bus extra times and each trip to the airport costs 5 Euro for every person, that was more expensive than in other hotels that cost 3 Euro. The hotel claimed hotel shuttle to airport but could not accomodate four people on the 5 am shuttle. Apparent max at one time was four.We did not have a phone card to call hotel for shuttle and had trouble finding a phone to get in touch with you. No one was at information desk at the airport. The rooms are small by American standards but are well-laid out and had sufficient space for an overnight. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom other than the low voltage one for a razor. The mattress was a typical hard mattress found in most European hotel rooms.We only had the international phone number, so contacting the hotel fromthe airport proved to be challenging!. The man at the front desk was very impatient and loud in making arrangements for a bus to pick me up--didn't describe bus to look for. My wife said that the hairdryer in the rooms were not suitable for drying and styling hair properly.
