Access to the island is by a private car ferry which operates throughout the day. Ferry crossing takes 3 minutes, and can be arranged at the hotel. Drive up the beech-lined drive to reach the castle and its 800 years of history. Local activities include golfing on an 18-hole course, clay-target shooting, a driving range, archery, tennis and croquet. There are also several nature trails and walking paths to explore.

Beautiful location, hotel exudes old world charm, friendly staff, great breakfast options included in the price of the room; I had eggs benedict, excellent. We ate a light dinner in the bar, although the bar technically only serves food until 7pm, the wait staff was only to happy to bring you food after 7pm. all reviews » The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and quiet with a pleasant view of several azalea bushes in full bloom. Dinner was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised by our servers wine selection to compliment our meal. Breakfast was also quite tasty with a nice spread of cold meats, cheeses and cereals, followed by our selection of a freshly prepared warm dish. We enjoyed strolling the nature trail after breakfast and were intrigued by the many sights and sounds of. We loved the fact that we had to get the 2 minute trip ferry to the island. That you didn't have to leave the island to entertain the children. If you wanted to go sight-seeing around Waterford there was so much to do. The facilities in the lodges were top-notch couldn't fault them. I could go on and on, we had five children in our group and not one of them wanted to leave!. To stay at an authentic medieval castle had been a dream of mine, and we will never forget our stay at Waterford Castle! The Presidential Suite was so impressive, I hardly know where to begin! It was beautifully furnished with lovely views from all the leaded glass windows. Our dinner was delicious, and the entire staff was most accommodating. Saying here was magical!. The lodge that we stayed in was excellent. The living room cum kitchen was spacious and bright with an exceptionally well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms had high quality bed linens. Each one had an ensuite bathroom. The food in the Castle restaurant was excellent. We all loved the idea of taking the ferry to the island. The island was lovely to stay on with plenty of space for the kids to run around and explore. In our weeks stay we saw deer, rabbits, hares and a badger that wandered up to our back door. The kids especially loved the frequent trips to and from the mainland on the car ferry. Stayed on night in lodge with friends. Very modern and comfortable. Nice location. Would visit again. Dinners and drinks in the castle were superb - good waiter 'Antonio'. Very pleasant overnight. This place was great! We stayed at the lodge apartments, just a short walk to the castle. It was very spacious, modern, comfortable and clean. It also had a full sized washer and drier. The island is maintained really well and its lovely to walk around and see the deer, even at night its very safe to walk around and we got to see badgers too. Loved that the lodges were so spacious and kids were able to play outside in playground in quiet safe surroundings. It was relaxing and most enjoyable. A great atmosphere prevailed and the views and gardens are phenomenal. The castle is authentic in its decor and the food is terriffic. Staff were helpful and friendly. we booked the lodges ,they are really beautiful. Size, comfort . Most of all the nature walks. The "castle" experience - the castle has been well restored and is generally beautifully done. We stayed in the garden lodges which were very spacious, well equipped and very clean. Personnel were great. Meals in the Castle Hotel were excellent. Resort was clean. loved the decor of the lodges, so comfortable, well equipped, modern and spotless. felt very special.. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that we had to leave at the end of our holiday:). That we could not stay longer!. It would be a good idea to have some music and games in the lodges. Drinks in the Castle are very expensive. Once on the island there was not much to do. The playground was very small and only kept the kids happy for about 5 minutes which is a shame as there is so much space to have a much bigger play area. There was no internet access in the house even though the houses were finished to a high spec and even had a 24 port rack ready to accommodate a switch. I was really surprised that there was no pool again considering how large the island is. Extremely frosty receptionist upon arrival and departure who would benefit from a course in' customer services'. There were a number of faults/minor problems inside the lodge that were not addressed. No complaints at all, except I wish it had been stocked with laundry detergent and an extra blanket. I can't believe there is no internet access to the lodges, even a wired port would be something but there is no internet at all so I wouldn't consider the lodges to be that luxurious. The kids playground is awful considering how much space there is on the island, it is tiny and will only satisfy children for about 5 minutes. Would have loved access to a swimming pool and didn't like not being able to access hotel when weddings were on. Nothing. The pillows. Nothing we loved it. Not sure about the wooden toilet seat :). The unit was a bit sparce in furnishings. Nothing. would have liked tea/coffee facilities in room. also shower cap in bathroom would be good. Food options limited unless you leave the island. maintenance on houses & common areas has been lacking. experience would be greatly enhanced is this was addressed. The furnishings were outdated. The door lock broke which kept us locked out of our room. The staff had to climb through the window to let us in, but then there was no way to secure the room, so we could not stay there that night. They moved to us to one of the lodges, which was very modern, but had limited hot water. Had food in the golf club an was very poor, a steak sandwich was presented with 4 small bits of bread too one side of the plate, a few bits of steak to the other some lettuce an chips , I had never seen anything like it. upstairs rooms hard to access with heavy luggage. unable to adjust room heating. Everything else. Especially the room furniture which actually broke underneath us. At one point I seriously considered a lawsuit for personal injury.

Access to the island is by a private car ferry, which operates throughout the day. The ferry crossing takes 3 minutes. All bookings are subject to a EUR 5 Resort & Island fee, payable upon departure. Please note when booking The Castle Garden Lodges that a per day gas & electricity charge will be applied. January to June and September to December EUR 7 per day. July and August EUR 5 per day. When booking more than 5 rooms, different policies and additional supplements may apply. Please note portable/disposable barbecues are not permitted.
