Easily found at the top of OConnell and a little to the right, right above Fibber McGees. Couldnt have got better location for the money spent. Very clean room, dont be fooled by the old exterior, the rooms are modern, clean, and the breakfast is worth the early wakeup call. On arrival a very helpful receptionist was waiting and we must have met 4 different receptionists who were all very helpful. No hassle leaving our suitcase after midday checkout so we could get some shopping in before our 4.
all reviews » I am very happy I stayed at the Gate Hotel, the service is wonderful, the location could not be better, I was treated with attention. It was my first time in Dublin and they explained to me how to reach to places, gave me full guidance and even helped me get the best spots for shopping. There is also an area downstairs that connects with local pubs that is very nice and you can hear live music or chill and have a beer in other pubs without having to move out of the hotel. I fully recommend it; . The staff was very friendly and helpful, it felt like it's a family run hotel. They offered Irish breakfast, and did it very well. Breakfast is served, plus you can choose from a selection of 3 types of cereals. The room was very good- we got a family, spacious room with 4 beds. It was new and clean. The Gate hotel is less than 10 minutes walking from the river, and 15mins from Temple bar- night life. It's got a great location. You don't need to use public transportation within Dublin, it's qu. Besides the fact its at old pub, the floor is not always flat, it was a good get away from a packpackers for very little more, and you can see they are working hard to get it returned to a good inn, And getting there was Easter than said, take the blue 16 bus from the airport, the Gus at the airport will point you in the right way. The staff are very friendly and obliging. The location is excellent. There is an old family-run feel to the place ... it is clean and does what is says on the can - a perfect base for exploring Dublin for a young person who will be out until 3 am enjoying all the Dublin offers!. The room furnishings are modest--but quite clean and serviceable; if one wants luxury there are the grand hotels. The old rooms are bad but the top floor is great and was told the second floor is be done in Jan 2014, so soon all the hotel will be excellent. The main thing was that the stairs was not clean/hoovered, the mirror was a bit low over the sink, and a chair missing from the main bed room to leave clothes on. Could do with modernisation. Windows did not close properly. Above pub which was loud but did not disturb us unduly and staff had pre-warned us. The outside of the hotel could do with a coat of paint. We were very apprehensive when we saw it but where pleasantly surprised when we entered. Don't let the outside put you off as this is a lovely hotel. There didn't seem to be a lift either. Didnt like having to ring doorbell and wait for admittance even during the day. No hotel foyer. The tv in the room did not work. Would recommend that ye put a mirror bit highter in the bathroom with a better light for ladies putting on make up. Mirror is very low even for men shaving!. Brekfast old toast reheated. hottest shower I've ever had, couldn't get it to go cooler. better than the other way round though!. A bit tatty and run down. No lift. Noise from bars. Front entrance is very poor, long flight of stairs to reception. Bad smell just inside front door, tho not in the rest of the hotel. Great value for money as budget accomodation. Facilities weren't the best but all in all a very enjoyable night definitely be back. Nothing. The stairs and a heavy suitcase. The torrential rain!. Initial room had weak wifi connection but staff did get me another room. The second room did not have a chair in it - did not raise this with staff. The bed, you can feel iron(out of the matellas) when sleeping. would like it if room doors had more secure locking. Nothing. Loud music playing nearby till early hours of the morning. Bit grubby. bathroom and shower were too small. a bit noisy but moved us to a quieter room on request. The stairs. notting.
