The people that work at the hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful. They provided all sorts of information about getting around town and over to the islands nearby. They provided extra pillows and blankets when we asked, and they fixed our heater as soon as we indicated a problem. The breakfast room is really nice, and the food selections started our days off on the right foot. Serviceminded and professional staff. Breakfast with youghurt, müsli, fruit, bread, cheese, ham, juice. Best location in Split in the old town, next to the sea, near ferries, airport bus, shops, restaurants. We (4 persons) stayed in the apartment at the top floor with sea view.

No parking facility and no description of route to hotel. The receptionist offered help with bags but was walking away as she did so - thus lip service only. No lift. Did not take credit or charge cards, "the machine is not working properly, cash would be better". Bathroom too small and nowhere to hook towel while shower being taken. Heating system noisy in 1 of our 2 rooms.The air conditioning stopped in the middle of the night and we had to open the windows.It was noisey and hot! Apparently the water resevoir was full and we should have emptied it but no one told us! Ask about it unless you are an AC engineer! The sea view was there..... if you hung out of the window. It's pricey... we had rooms in Split equally good for 66 Euros. They had a problem with their credit card machine and would only take cash - a problem for me!. One of the three rooms we used had poor aircondition and was verywarm during the night. It seems common to state that visa/master cardis accepted, but the machine is always "broken" - which was also thecase here. They did not clean our room two mornings, there was no elevator, no phone, the TV didn't work for 4 days, the breakfast was of poor quality. The main entrance. dirty floor, very small room, very poor breakfast, very expensive stay- only 500 meters away there were larger rooms were 3 times cheaper.

Travelling information

B&B Kastel 1700 is in the center of the old town, on the south side of Diocletian's Palace. We are located only 300 metres away from the ferry port, bus and train station. If you are coming from that direction (facing the sea) you must go on your right towards the promenade - ''Riva'' (street with palm trees and bars). At the beginning of the promenade there is a public parking lot (our nearest parking) and just follow the promenade for 100 metres and take the first entrance in the town between 2 tobacco shops (''Tisak'' and ''Slobodna Dalmacije'') in the small square Trg Brace Radic (''Vocni Trg'') with the statue of Marko Marulic. From that square you can see our windows (look up) on your right hand side. When you come to the statue turn right and around the corner, again right and we are at the end of a small street ''Mihovilova sirina 5'', next to Hugo Boss store. Since we are in pedestrian area you must leave your car on a public parking lot. There is one on the promenade (2 minutes from us) and one next to the bus station (10 minutes from us). We are B&B Kastel 1700 in the old town of Split, but there is another Hotel Kastel in the Kastela area. Please ensure that you explain this to your taxi driver.
