I was looking for a hotel with historical character, reasonable prices and a convenient location. Marvel provided all of these. The building certainly has a special historical charm, but the rooms are functionally modern. To my pleasure, there was very little traffic noise, despite being on a very busy street. (My room was on the side, with no view - probably front rooms looking onto the park are noisier). The metro line 8 station is a few steps away from the hotel entrance. Although not the mo.
all reviews » The room was large and luxuriously furnished. Spacious bathroom which was well stocked with all the essential toiletries and restocked daily. Very comfortable bed. Well located within 15 mts walking distance to Nanjing pedestian mall. Also many reasonably priced cafes and restaurants nearby (turn left as you come out of hotel), banks nearby (Citibank next door). Staff were very attentive and friendly (reception staff speak good English) and very efficient (arranging taxi to airport, dealing wit. I spent one week here and I'm very satisfied with the service minded staff, the size of the room and the facilities. The free Internet connection (with cable) worked very well. I did not try the breakfast so no comments on that. The hotel is located one minute from Dashijie subway station with connection to People's Square and Line 2 to and from Pudong International Airport. From People's Square you can jump on Line 1 to Shanghai Railway Station if you plan to go to Suzhou. The location was fantastic! Couldn't be better in fact, next to the subway which is super user friendly. Also not too far from train station. Most importantly walking distant from the Bund, Fuxing Park, People Square, Shanghai Museum and all on the subway line. Don't miss Shanghai Circus OMG absolutely amazing!!! One wanted to charge us 15yuan for a map but then another man found a free map. Hotel guest info tv page was not working. The washroom sometimes got bad smell. The hotel required to have rmb100 deposit for asking to have the glass for wine. Nothing. Breakfast a little expensive though there are plenty of coffee shops in the area. No hairdryer in room. The deposit they took from my credit card the first day was extremly high. Around 500 €. Attitude of one or two of front desk staff should be improved. Language competence in one case an issue. But generally we quite satisfied. Breakfast seems very expensive by Chinese standards although I didn't take it so it may be worth the price. There are plenty of places nearby for good breakfasts at a cheaper price. None. Restaurant too noisy, unuseable. The housekeeping service only be available before 3pm only. mate threw left over tea from cup in toilet bowl and forgot to flush, looked pretty disgusting at first glance after we got back to the room from long tired day. Preffered language English. hotel reception did neither inform us the room number nor which way to the lift. hotel restaurant is more for group or pre-arranged party, not for individuals and of course, you need to be able to speak a bit of chinese to communicate. if you use shower creme, you need to put the cleaning sign so new one will be replaced. The staff at the reception was all the time blank about most travel related queries. They English communication skills were very poor. So be armed with a smart phone and the google translate app to get by. I had to pay a further £50 above the expected price including all extra charges. minibar was empty. Too old. air conditioning was dusty, in the bathroom, blind curtain was super dusty as well. i had to switch it off when i went bed. I assume they do not care of the cleaning so much. I will not stay here again because i have a bit of dust allergy. other things are all good, CS is good. staff is nice and friendly. The reception unfriendly.The asked me to give as deposit 2 times the price of the room.No shower gel int he bathroom.The area around was really stinky. Cleanliness seems to me poor, I got good room rate but at very low floor, no view from the window at all.
